    How did I get there?

    How did I get here?
    How did I get there?

Every so often I find myself lost. The funny thing is I do that while sitting at my computer desk. It can start with an email, a blog, reading a forum, someone’s tweet or “googling” a question. Before I know it I’ve clicked this link then that URL and now I’m somewhere out in cyber-space.

While living in Hawaii I took a spin at surfing and found it was not my sport. In fact, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it back to shore. I find surfing the internet much easier and getting back easier, just back to your home page. It’s a world of its own and encompasses the world. The internet provides me with much needed knowledge and several communities. It’s exciting to see a new window open, leading me to another place of exploration, entertainment, and maybe a gold nugget. But, every once in a while I ask the question, “How did I get here?”

    Knowing your histogram

    Lake Jackson
    Sunset on Lake Jackson

This is an image taken in 2003 while on my way back from participating in a workshop in Jackson, WY. When shooting with film I always bracketed so when I started shooting digital I also bracketed exposures. Now that I have a better understanding of the histogram the need to bracket is not as important. I still do it on occasions but with the power of the histogram I sure use it less.

    Hidden Bench

    In the background
    In the background

While walking in a park in Savannah I was drawn to a vine entwined metal archway. I was not satisfied with any of my images. Something was missing. As I started to leave I noticed the bench in the background. My mind then envisioned the scene you see above. I shortened my DOF and moved in closer to the archway, eliminating it. I like this image as it is no longer a snapshot but pulls the two subjects together and removes the busy street scene in the background. Please let me know what this scene says to you.
