    Thistle

    Thistle

Here is another one of those plants we so often place in the weed category. We usually find it in an area that is not properly cared as it does not grow in barren ground. However, it is also know for its medicinal purposes, and when processed properly can be used for fodder for cows and horses. The seeds can used to make oil. And, the leaves are edible for those adventurous enough to try. I use them for images.

It’s been a while since I mentioned anything about the Canon G12 so here is a bit of an update. There has been a learning curve and I think it’s affected my photography. I say that because I have been so focused on learning the mechanics of the camera that my vision has suffered. The more comfortable I become as a craftsman with this tool, the better I see the world around me.

    Feeding Time

    Pelicans Feeding

I sat on a bench to watch these six pelicans feeding. Pelicans often fish in groups. They will form a line to chase schools of small fish into shallow water, and then scoop them up. Large fish are caught with the bill-tip, then tossed up in the air to be caught and slid into the gullet head first. Quite comical to watch but efficient.

    Missed them the first time

    Bent Nails

Looks like someone took a hammer to these large nails that once protruded from this telephone pole. A year and a half ago I posted an image of two nails protruding from a telephone pole. This past week I was in the same area and while on a walk looked for this same telephone pole. I found it and also discovered these two bent nails. Strange how I missed it the first time I was there.

    Natures Designs

    New Leaves

The answers are ambiguous – the image needs to be complex but not to a point of clutter, or it needs to be simple but not to a point of being too literal. It needs to have a message yet without the message being too obvious… or too obscure. Confused? If so, you have just learned an important lesson – art does not follow hard and fast rules, and thus transcends any attempt at a ubiquitous definition.” – Guy Tal

The wind was blowing when I tried to get an image of these leaves. Strange how this blurred effect seemed better than if I’d kept them in focus. I liked the shapes and lines and was trying to present that.

    Field of Flowers

    White Yarrow

Wikipedia states that a weed is any plant that is considered by the user of the term to be a nuisance. To some this field is considered a nuisance while I think it is a work of art. I also like how the wind is blurring some of the flowers.

I came across a good read and wanted to pass this along.

    A Splash of Color

    A Splash of Color

I like how nature can grab my attention with color. It does not have to be a brilliant color but one that pops out within the frame. There are many reasons leaves will turn yellow. One is a lack of adequate light. When plants become shaded by other plants or by branches higher up on the same plant, the chlorophyll fades away and the leaves yellow. They also change colors because they are not able to maintain adequate levels of the green pigment, chlorophyll. For me it does not matter as long as I enjoy the beauty it presents.
