    Trees on the Horizon

    Horizon with Clouds and Trees
    Trees on the Horizon

I’m making a road trip to Denver this morning with a couple of friends for a meeting. We are coming back early afternoon then I’m meeting up with a friend late afternoon. So it will be a social day which always seem to drain me. Pretty sure I will want to be out in nature after today for some quiet time. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

    A Texter

We are finally having spring like days. On campus there are students ins jackets and coats as well as those in t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops. It’s now 36 degrees but the suspicious weather apps say it may get up to 70 degrees. I will find time to sit outside today.

I’m sometimes uncomfortable when I take images of people when they are not aware. But it is a very good way to catch people as they are in the present moment and not self-conscious because a camera is pointed at them, thinking they need to pose. And,  now a days, texters are easy to find. Happy Friday!

    Grateful for …

    Tulips on Campus
    Tulips on Campus

“And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles, no matter how long, but only by a spiritual journey, a journey of one inch, very arduous and humbling and joyful, by which we arrive at the ground at our own feet, and learn to be at home.” Wendell Berry

Just as nature and a spiritual life have become important to me so have words, words I read, hear, and write. Grateful for words!

It is a nice spring day so thought I’d post this springlike image. Grateful for spring! The college does a wonderful job of planting tulips all over the campus. Grateful for tulips!

    Before and After

    Taken on March 28th
    Taken on March 28th

The tree trimmers were busy last week working on all the trees on my condo complex. Of course they made a bit of noise, annoying noise. But the noise was not the most annoying thing. The total removal of the tree outside my front door was. I would sit on my porch in my Adirondack chair and read, write and contemplate, solving most of the worlds problems. I’d watch my neighbors the squirrels wrestling and chasing one another. With the tree removal I probably will see them less. I also used to have a front row seat to the concerts performed on the stage this tree provided by my robins and chickadees.

I’m not sure but I think the tree was diseased as it did have more than it’s share of dead branches. I  believe it was an elm tree and  was at least 20 years old. Sad!

    Blossoms, Shadows and Snow?

    Blossoms and Shadows
    Blossoms and Shadows

I took this image earlier in the week on campus at one of the courtyards. Loved the patterns and muted colors. Hope you do also.

I listened to a man excitedly attempt to explain new scientific evidence of God and the creation of the universe.  I accept his enthusiasm and desire to explain what he now knows, but…. he quickly lost my attention. There are some who have found their Spirit of the Universe, Great Creator, Higher Power or whatever and each is different. And, there are those who are not even interested in knowing or looking.

I’m personally drawn to mystery. Mystery is what keeps me seeking, listening, reading, writing, asking questions but not necessarily expecting to find “the” answer.

    Life Changing

    Tulips on Campus
    Tulips on Campus

Fifteen years ago I had two life changing events occur in my life: one was provided in a 12 Step Recovery program and the other was purchasing my first digital camera. I purchased a Nikon D100 in October of 2002 and I stopped drinking in January 2003. Life changing because both have given me tools to begin to see myself, people, institutions, and all of creation when properly using these tools. I am grateful for both of these tools.

    A Photo Opportunity Missed?

    Arches National Park
    Arches National Park

Driving to Loveland this past weekend I saw a potential image of a horse standing along a fence, back-lit with the morning sunrise. However, I was on my way to meet my sister so I did not take the time and stop. A photo opportunity missed?

As I drove on I wondered how many photo opportunities I’ve had presented to me and missed because I did not take the time. It asks the question, “Why do I not take the time?” A few reasons are sloth, apathy, indolence but primarily due to the importance I place on the plans I’ve made. Any of these reasons may cause the gift of an image to be missed. This has me thinking I need to stop and take the time whenever an opportunity for an image appears.
