“Within yourself is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.”
Herman Hess
I’ve come to rely upon the retreats I take within and in nature. They both work for me.
My online journal sharing interests in photography, nature, coffee life, journaling, fountain pens, bicycling, spirituality and asking deep questions.

We have been warm in Colorado this past week but that looks to be changing the next few days. We are going to see temperatures about 10 degrees cooler and rain/thunderstorms. It is dry here so many are looking forward to any moisture. The predicted rain on Sunday may put a damper on any BBQ plans for Fathers Day.
Each morning as I leave for one of my coffee shops I’m given this scene of morning shadows. I usually just take a mental image, smile, and go my merry way but I’m sure I take at least one image a week of my neighbors door.
For the past 25 years I have done a lot of reading. There are times I have three books going at one time, which for my simple mind is probably not the wisest of decisions. I’m finding I struggle with my focus when reading, requiring the paragraph to be reread, sometimes more than once. The thought crosses my mind that I need to put all my books down for awhile. I don’t consider myself an author but then again, these journals are my books, my stories.

“The world exists as you perceive it.It’s not what you see, but how you see it.It is not what you hear, but how you hear it.It is not what you feel, but how you feel it.”

I’m re-reading David duChemin’s book The Soul of the Camera. I read it last year and just about done with my second pass. I thought this was his best book and feeling that still to be true.
The pen is my new TWSBI Classic in White with a medium nib. They make stiff steel nibs but all four TWSBI pens I’ve used are very smooth writers. I’m quite pleased with it.
“Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, moribund.”
Anthony Bourdain
It’s a fact: Roofers make a lot of noise. I know this because there is a crew of 20-30 men are replacing the shingles of my condo. Not sure how many nails are being pounded in the roof but “my” quick estimate from the constant noise would be in the billions. They’ve been at it all week from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and will continue into next week. Needless to say, I’m not spending much of my day time at home. In fact the parking lot has been rather empty all week. Yesterday afternoon I headed east to the prairie to enjoy the concert put on by my friends the meadowlarks. Love their music! I took my camera with me just because I always do. Never know what scene I may find.
Will meet up with my oldest daughter, Christine, later this morning for brunch. Enjoy your weekend.
Our days are getting warm as we move into summer. The sun is rising earlier and setting later. It’s a good time of the summer for me. I enjoy sitting in my Adirondack chair on my porch both mornings and evenings to journal or read whole listening to the robins.
Yesterday morning about 7:30 am I saw the above scene on my walk across campus. I loved it due to the lighting. It was all about the beginning of a new day. The back lighting of the sprinklers and the man’s shilouette were my attention getters. Enjoy your day!
“Follow your bliss. If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be. If you follow your bliss, doors will open for you that
Joseph Campbell
