    Walking the Path

This is from yesterday afternoon on a walk at the Environmental Learning Center along the Poudre River. I go there for the quiet, probably not often enough. I found three young people who had strung hammocks among a grove of trees, were playing music and staring at their phones. We were not using the ELC I read earlier in the day that we do not seek silence as much as we are to be silence. I like that idea and will need to ponder that for awhile, in silence. You”ll find the reading below.

Storm clouds filled the sky to the south and west but no rain. Teh clouds and a cool breeze made it almost a perfect temperature. Loved the musty smell of the woods and all the birds singing. The Poudre River was full and running hard from the spring runoff. I was glad to see few mosquitos or flies.

“Perhaps for the first time we have a limited sense of what it means to be silence, instead of actively seeking or longing for the silence we think we lack and trying to make space for silence in our lives, as if this silence were not already silence but some sort of object to be sought and found.” Martin Laird

    Blue Sky

We got home from Phoenix on Monday evening. I enjoyed my time in Phoenix with family, eating way too much, talked about old memories of our childhood and laughed a lot. Dad may have gotten bored a couple of times but mom sure did enjoy herself. Each morning after dad made breakfast we would go for coffee. This is the adobe wall outside the building and two shadows I found intriguing.

The cataract surgery went well. Was seeing 20/50 with my right eye 24 hours after surgery. Have an appointment today and see how much it improves. I may not need glasses except to read. That is strange as I’ve had to have corrective lenses since I was around 10 years old. I am scheduled to have the left eye operated on June 4th. As of now, I am quite excited.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things long after you have forgotten everything.”

    May Snowfall

This image was taken this morning at the CSU Experimental Gardens. They brought in soil for planting then this morning’s a light snow makes the dirt piles look like piles of snow. Leaving in the morning for Phoenix to celebrate my parents 70th anniversary. Party’s on!

    Found a New Tree

“We must become so alone, so utterly alone, that we withdraw into our innermost self. It is a way of bitter suffering. But then our solitude is overcome, we are no longer alone, for we find that our innermost self is the spirit, that it is God, the indivisible. And suddenly we find ourselves in the midst of the world, yet undisturbed by its multiplicity, for our innermost soul we know ourselves to be one with all being.” Hermann Hesse

I discovered this unique shaped tree this past week while roaming around the area north of Fort Collins. This is an area that I think I’d like to live. It’s not far from town and almost no multi-family building but homes on larger lots, a remnant of the farm life. I could have my small little cottage, solitude, a garden, chickens and enjoy views like this morning and evening. Dreaming. Anyway, just to forewarn you there may be a few more pics of this tree in the future.

    Friday Night Art Walk

First Friday Art Walk is a monthly self-guided walking tour that celebrates creativity, culture, and community in Downtown Fort Collins on the first Friday of each month from 6 – 9 pm. From fine to funky, First Friday Art Walk showcases a spectrum of artistic styles to entertain and engage amateurs and art aficionado of all ages, interests and backgrounds. The website says 22 venues partake in it. Some are art galleries serving snacks, drinks and musicians and some are the local bars. This past Friday I made a trip down to Old Town because my friend Don Thurn was playing. In this image he is playing Starry, Starry Night by Don McClean at the Walnut Creek.

This store is a great place to buy and sell unique jewelry, repurposed furniture, boutique clothing, vintage goods and a plethora of other knick-knacks and handcrafted gifts, representing about 80 local artists. If you can think of it I bet you could find in there. 🙂
