    Simply being alive…

Morning sunrise and fog along the Poudre River

“What we have named as anger on the surface is the violent outer response to our own inner powerlessness, a powerlessness connected to such a profound sense of rawness and care that it can find no proper outer body or identity or voice, or way of life to hold it. What we call anger is often simply the unwillingness to live the full measure of our fears or of our not knowing, in the face of our love for a wife, in the depth of our caring for a son, in our wanting the best, in the face of simply being alive and loving those with whom we live.”  David Whyte, Consolations

Had a friend share how they enjoyed the writings of David Whyte, an English poet. So I bought and read his book Consolations and have enjoyed it. At this time of my life much of what he writes in this book has touched something within me. I read more now but not everything I read resonates with me and I no longer expect that from an author. What I like is when the author makes me think. I can read something and hear an “Aaahh” come out of my mouth then a need to read it again. It may be how they say something rather than what they say. Or, they use a word that sets their thought or idea apart. His writings have done that for me. At this stage/age of my life reading is one of the keys helping me to awaken to simply being alive.

    You never know….

Approaching Pitkin and Meridian bus stop

Jay Maisel always says to bring your camera, ‘cause it’s tough to take a picture without it. Pursuant to the above aforementioned piece of the rule book, subset three, clause A, paragraph four would be…use the camera. Put it to your eye. You never know. There are lots of reasons, some of them even good, to just leave it on your shoulder or in your bag. Wrong lens. Wrong light. Aaahhh, it’s not that great, what am I gonna do with it anyway? I’ll have to put my coffee down. I’ll just delete it later, why bother? Lots of reasons not to take the dive into the eyepiece and once again try to sort out the world into an effective rectangle. It’s almost always worth it to take a look. – Joe McNally

    Happy Friday 13th

    A sad look

This was taken in 2004. Is it me or is there a sadness in this animals face? Is it in their eyes? I took it early in the morning so they could have been half awake and no coffee, yet. We are at 44 degrees this morning so the bicycle ride was nippy. Will meet my oldest daughter for breakfast this morning. Hoping you have a great Friday!

    Life Moves On

Sunset in Fort Collins taken in 2004

“There was never a dawn, regardless how beautiful or promising, that did not grow into noontime. There was never a noon that did not fall into afternoon. There was never an afternoon that did not fade toward evening. There never was a day yet that did not get buried in the graveyard of the night.”

    Fortitude

    Runners in the Fortitude Race

Last weekend they had the third annual Fortitude race in Fort Collins. Unknown to me the route came in front of Mugs coffee shop. These runners are at the 5 mile mark on 10k race. They were about a mile from the finish line which was in the stadium. I loved the shadows these runners are casting in the morning sun.
