George EastmanIn continuing with the hotel theme from yesterday, here is another photo taken in our hotel just outside the elevator on the fifth floor. These vases are huge, standing almost four feet tall. The inviting afternoon light had a warm glow and beckoned me to find the best perspective I could.

Brooks Atkinson – 1951, Once Around the SunAfter a day of flying my routine is to walk into my hotel room, throw my bags down, kick off the shoes, peel off the uniform and let out a big sigh. And, if it’s been a long day, I just flop down on the bed. Aaaaahhhh! The quiet. We call this “slam-clicking”. But, there are those times when I just quickly change clothes and head for the lobby to meet up with my crew for dinner or site seeing. Don’t want to miss out on something.
But every once in a while I walk in my room and see a potential image because we photographers are always looking. I see many scenes like the one above but for some reason this particular day it looked so different to me. Impulsively, while still in uniform and shoes on, I pulled out the camera and pressed the shutter button. Man I love that sound!

… & better than what?
… than what? I found this image in a window in Rockville, New York. It made me laugh as I just passed over the 60 year mark. Hope everyone has a great day. And, hopefully I’m getting better at this love of photography.

I never saw it
Window This image came up unexpected. By that I mean I did not see this or envision it. What caught my attention was the late afternoon light. We had rain and overcast skies all day until late afternoon when the clouds broke and the sun came out casting long shadows. I saw the light against the bulding and grabbed my camera. I honestly did not see the window until I looked through the view finder and then it was all I could see. I moved around placing it in various positions in the frame while keeping my reflection out of the window. I also expected to convert it to black and white but I do like the subtle soft hues instead. I settled on this one and ran it through Topaz Adjust. I never saw it coming.

John WeissIt feels good knowing how often I look for light. It tells me I’ve grown as a photographer, no longer just shooting but looking for images which stir me inside. Not everyone will like this image or others I will take but that does not matter to me. This image is for me. I saw the light, the shadows and then took the steps to create an image that is appealing to my eye. in fact, I took several images until I got the one I wanted. When the opportunity arises, I will shoot it again. And, I’ll share it on this blog, just in case someone else may enjoy it. Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
