Something for me to Ponder
It is sometimes difficult for those who move into the later years of life, the aging years, for the need to let go of certain things. These can be such things as driving, some physical abilities like dancing the twist, carousing late into the night, or whatever you can come up with. I’ve heard it said the opposite of letting go is hanging on. What do we hang on to and why? Hanging on can have a sense of scarcity and fear of loss. This then asks the question what do we want to hang on to and what do we want to let go of. However, Parker J. Palmer rephrases this question and asks, “What do I want to let go of and what do I want to give myself to?” I like the sound of that. Something for me to ponder.

I’ll buy next time
It feels like summer. Temperatures have been in the 90’s for several days. However, I’m thankful there is no humidity and the nighttime temperatures cool us off. The cool nights and mornings are a plus for living in Colorado.
I have for some time now wanted to take more black and white portraits. Actually, I have been taking more black and white images. Yesterday, a friend and I went downtown to Mugs for one of their chocolate eclairs. Let me tell you they are the best and made locally. 🙂 Anyway, as we sat outside I took a quick image of Alex then asked if I could. He told me no! Too late, my friend! Thanks, I’ll buy the eclairs next time.

Cortado and Water
In case no one knows, a cortado is a Spanish-origin general term for a beverage consisting of espresso mixed with a roughly equal amount of warm milk to reduce the acidity. I also sometimes ask for wee bit of chocolate added. And when you find a barista who can make latte art it’s even better. 🙂

Acceptance and Gratitude
There are days when my inner peace is troubled or just not there. It can be due to the political environment and struggles of our world, a troubled relationship in my life, my weight, a task I really do not want to do, traffic, road construction, money (the lack of it). I could go on but I’m sure you have your own list. Sometimes I find myself thinking I’d have more peace if I did more walking, got more rest, spent more time in prayer and mediation, more solitude, more…. a lack of something? Then at some moment of clarity I stop and laugh at myself. More is not my answer, although this culture wants to convince me it is. I’ve come to realize it’s not the wants that bring peace and serenity but it’s the acceptance and gratitude of what I already have. And, maybe having less will allow more peace, letting go of something(s).

It’s how you see
“The world exists as you perceive it.It’s not what you see, but how you see it.It is not what you hear, but how you hear it.It is not what you feel, but how you feel it.”
RumiI’m re-reading David duChemin’s book The Soul of the Camera. I read it last year and just about done with my second pass. I thought this was his best book and feeling that still to be true.
The pen is my new TWSBI Classic in White with a medium nib. They make stiff steel nibs but all four TWSBI pens I’ve used are very smooth writers. I’m quite pleased with it.

Getting Warmer
Our days are getting warm as we move into summer. The sun is rising earlier and setting later. It’s a good time of the summer for me. I enjoy sitting in my Adirondack chair on my porch both mornings and evenings to journal or read whole listening to the robins.
Yesterday morning about 7:30 am I saw the above scene on my walk across campus. I loved it due to the lighting. It was all about the beginning of a new day. The back lighting of the sprinklers and the man’s shilouette were my attention getters. Enjoy your day!
