    A Time for Contemplation

    Taking in the Sunset

It is light that reveals, light that obscures, light that communicates. It is light I “listen” to. The light late in the day has a distinct quality, as it fades toward the darkness of evening. After sunset there is a gentle leaving of the light, the air begins to still, and a quiet descends. I see magic in the quiet light of dusk. I feel quite, yet intense energy in the natural elements of our habitat. A sense of magic prevails. A sense of mystery. It is a time for contemplation, for listening – a time for making photographs.

    John Sexton

    Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

    Dreamer

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon- instead of enjoying the roses blooming outside our window today.”

    Dale Carnegie

Many of our dreams, and those we’ve yet to see, take us to some other place and time. We are no longer present except in body. But just dreaming about them will not give them birth. It is our responsibility to take action and make them reality. Whatever fearful steps we take will reveal the roses.

    Need a Haircut

Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time.
Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.

    M. Scott Peck

There are times I find tension building up in my shoulders and the back of my neck. I think they call it “being up tight.” Major warning signs that something is amiss in my life. When I notice the tension one of the first things I do is focus on my breathing. I then look to see what’s going on within me. Am I not dealing with people and situations in a healthy way? What am I avoiding? Am I not getting enough sleep? Am I faltering in my routines: quiet, solitude, eating and exercise, meditation and prayer? Then I realize I’ve not taken any photographs for the past two days. Duh! Setup the tripod and press the shutter until symptoms go away. That’ll take care of the tension.

    Reflecting

There is no desire to be outside as it is cold and therefore this self-portrait and short post. We received 5 inches of snow starting on Tuesday evening and on into Wednesday. I so enjoy the silence of falling snow, another one of the gifts of nature to heal and refresh. But along with the snow comes the colder temperatures as they dropped into the single digits on Wednesday night, 7 degrees. By afternoon we were up to 38 but quickly dropping fast back into the teens for the overnight low and we are expecting this pattern for the next 3-4 days. So last night I setup the camera for a couple of self-portraits while enjoying the Christmas tree lights, the silence and a bit of reflection.

Today is also my youngest granddaughters birthday, so Happy Birthday Madie! I love you!

    A Smile

A Smile or maybe a Smirk

“Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”

    Mother Teresa

While taking this self-portrait my granddaughter was trying to make me smile. She succeeded. I needed to use one of the presets in Topaz Adjust to make me look handsomer. I go back to work today on another 4-day trip. So here’s a gift to everyone, a smile. 🙂

    The Solution Is

Sunset on the Cache la Poudre River

The solution of the problem of life is life itself.
Life is not attained by reason and analysis but first of all by living.

    Thomas Merton

Over the past few years my idea of “living life” has changed. I have been working at spending more time in nature, respecting nature and all life forms, spending time with family and friends, laughing at myself and others, taking more risks, walking my own paths, worrying less, learning to accept others views, traveling, photography, maintaining my health, being grateful and, of course, watching sunsets.

    A Bit of a Smirk

Okay, it’s Friday and here’s another self-portrait. I don’t know if you can call this a project but as a photographer I’m kinda getting into the swing of it. From the smirk on the models face you can tell he’s getting into it also. I really am not working on any specific projects even though I have a list. So maybe self-portraits could be one. They do offer a challenge to come up with new ideas, poses, compositions and post processing stuff. I took this last night while a slight drizzle was falling on both me and the camera. After I came inside the rain came down hard so what I had was going to be what I post. They even had some mud and rock slides up the Poudre Canyon as the two fires wiped out most of the vegetation to hold the soil in place.

I like the expression on my face with this image as there is a bit of smirk on the handsome dudes face. I head back out today for another 4-day trip. I hope everyone has a good Friday and a great weekend.

    Watching the Sunset

It is not only the tool that makes a good photograph. It is the person behind it.

    Norman J. Piluke

I have invested good money into my tools for photography and I hope to spend the rest of my life investing in the person behind those tools and every once in a while in front of those tools. Anyway, it’s Friday and another week has quickly come and gone. I’ve gotta quit blinking so much these weeks are blazing by.

    From Above

    Me From Above

As Willy Nelson’s lyrics go, “I’m on the road in the air again.” Started a 4-day trip yesterday flying all over the place. I am working with a young lady I haven’t seen in a couple of years so it will be a good trip. Anyway, here is another self-portrait with a twist in both perspective and post processing. This is one of the presets in LR4. Gotta try different things to see how they turn out and also another example of listening to the muse.

    Just Me

    Just Me

In case you don’t know my name is Monte. I do reside or occupy a home but my name is still Monte. It is not resident or occupant. So I do not want my mailbox filled with junk mail that does not have my name on it. Any mail that says occupant or resident does not make it past the trash bin. Yes, you can call it a pet-peeve, a sore spot, a waste of paper, whatever but it causes the hair on my neck to stand up. This idea of flooding our mailboxes with advertisements makes me feel hounded. I wish there was a way to stop it. Anyway, here’s my Friday self-portrait.
