Where do our eyes go? When we’re searching for images do we look up or down? Do we search for colors, patterns, subjects? I ask these questions because of todays photo. While driving I noticed the morning sun shinning brightly across the Hoover Reservoir and pulled into one the parking lots to see what I could find. I carefully walked to the waters edge as the ground was soggy from the rain and snow we have been having. I took several images but none of them had any feeling to them. As I stood to walk away I noticed a frozen puddle at my feet. I “froze” in my tracks and had a good chuckle. The image I needed to take was the one at my feet. I was looking up rather than downward. It was another reminder that the images we will take are all around us, we just have to be aware of all that is around us.

As a forester, I was also trained to fight forest fires. One of the basic safety classes we took was titled “Look Up, Look Down, Look Around. I always try to apply the same when out with my camera.
