    An Intense Sky

    Intense sky over Dixon Reservoir

I awoke early this morning because it usually takes me a day or two to adjust to the time change. It was a cool 36 degrees as I drove to Pineridge Natural Area. The skies have been intense the past 3-4 days for both sunrises and sunsets. As I stepped out of the car, I could feel the light but cold breeze coming out of the west. You can see the unsettled water as the wind moves across the surface of Dixon Reservoir. And I love the red reflection on the waters surface. When I left my condo I grabbed my gloves but they do not help much when they are left in the car. So, by the time I got back my hands were cold. Note to self. Now filled with gratitude I headed for the Bean Cycle and a mocha. My hands feel normal again. I have a Zoom meeting at 9:30 am today and a second one at 5:30 pm. No, I’m not that important. Sounds like we could be turning cold by the end of the week. May you have a super Awesome day!

    Special touch

    Latte Art

I enjoy the special touch the Bean Cycle offers with my mocha. After adding the mocha and espresso in the cup they begin pouring the steamed milk. When the cup is about a quarter full with steamed milk, they stop and sprinkle a dash of chocolate powder on top of the already poured milk. Next they fill the rest of the cup with more foamed milk adding those two or three hearts, showing their craft. To me the chocolate powder adds a tough to the looks and I love how the powder mixed with the foam sticks to my mustache. ❤️ So, sometimes I start my morning with this gift. Seems to make the day run smoother. I hope I was able to fully espresso how they make this special touch.

    Celebrate

People wish to be poets more than they wish to write poetry, and that’s a mistake. One should wish to celebrate more than one wishes to be celebrated.

    Lucille Clifton

If we change the word poet and poetry to some other creative field, her words would work for them also. So, I suggest we celebrate whatever creative endeavor we’re drawn too and not fret about any accolades. It could be as a photographer or even a barista.

This is not my normal mocha latte. It is called a Brooklyn Woodrow which is a cuban style espresso. It’s an espresso drink usually made with a strong dark roast then sweetened with sugar to counter the bitterness. Some even whip the sugar in the espresso. The Bean Cycle makes theirs in a 6 oz mug. Therefore the ratio between a single shot of espresso to milk is much different than in a 12 oz latte, thus making it stronger tasting. They then sweeten it with a dash of brown sugar. My taste buds like it. So, I’m gonna celebrate this anonymous creative barista who created this!

    Tasted Perfect

    simple recipe
    frothed milk and espresso
    gift of latte art

With overcast and smokey skies this morning I headed to the Bean Cycle for a latte and journaling. My barista, Devan, made a very attractive mocha with her artistic touch. I like how she sprinkles chocolate powder about halfway through pouring the milk then finishes with her latte art. Again, I took this image with that old camera and I think the image turned out decent. But, the mocha tasted perfect. Happy Sunday!

    Morning Rituals

    morning ritual
    quiet prayer and meditation
    cortado and perrier

    ms

I’ve mentioned a bit of information on cortados before but here’s more. A cortado is a popular small-sized espresso. The balance between the espresso and milk is 1:1, (about half espresso, half milk). This amount of milk primarily serves to reduce the acidity of the espresso. It also has less froth than a latte. This one made at the Bean Cycle is 2 ounces of equal espresso and steamed milk. The other glass is Perrier water. I buy these once in a while because they have less milk than my latte, an enjoyable coffee flavor when made with good fresh beans and are less expensive. If you are adventurous enough, they can also be made with flavored syrup.

    What My Soul Needs

    horizon of colors
    with quiet and solitude
    pre-dawn on the farm

    ms

I am blessed to have the natural areas so close and with easy access. Yet, this morning I felt the desire to drive eastward, into Weld County. For I can also experience the quiet and solitude my soul needs out here. Taken this morning near Weld County Road 15 and County Road 78. And, I talked myself into stopping at the Bean Cycle on the way back into town for a mocha latte to bring home. This retirement life is pretty exciting!
