    The Dark Heart Coffee Bar

I met up with my sister on Sunday morning and tried out a coffee shop we had not visited before, call the Dark Heart Coffee Bar. There was a distinct difference in coffee flavor and probably because they use a coffee roaster out of Portland, Oregon neither one of us had heard of before, Coava Coffee Roasters. We both thought is was on the pricey side but we are also tight with our money, so we are not likely to make them a daily coffee shop but a special occasion place. It’s ambiance was light and airy, with lots of window light. The decor was nicely done, had plenty of room and did not feel crowded due to its open feeling. All the seating was located along the walls which was one continuous bench with separate tables and chairs, except the small high top table this young lady was sitting at. A big plus for me was the quiet, even though they were busy. They also had a nice porch area that would be enjoyable during the warmer weather. I will go back!

    It’s a Cortado Morning

    It's a cortado morning
    It’s a cortado morning

“Don’t just read for information, read for formation.”

It’s only 45 degrees this morning and not expected to get above 55 today. And the low tonight of 39 degrees. Today does not feel like fall but more like winter. The grey skies have no contrast in color, just a dell gray, reminding me of the winters in Ohio.

Had a friend invite me this morning to peel and core apples then bake a pie. Seems to be a day for that sort of creativity. Of course I’m assuming we will have to eat a piece to check out our work. I’ll let you know! 🙂

After I post this and leave the coffee shop, I will head  back home for some reading and writing. Me time! And, of course take time for some prayer and meditation. More me time. Right now it’s cortado time then off the make and bake a pie. 🙂

    I Smiled, Again

Sunrise on the patio at Bindles
Sunrise on the patio at Bindles

This mornings coffee shop included a drive to Bindles on the east side of town as they have good mochas and an ambiance I enjoy. As I stepped out the door, the eastern sky was just coming alive with the few scattered clouds slowly turning a beautiful red. I felt an inner joy as I drove into that eastern sunrise. I watched the red fade to pink then a light shade of orange. By the time I arrived in the parking lot the sun was just beginning to rise. Once out of the car I grabbed my camera. The day was arriving. I smiled!

    Cortado and Water

    Cortado
    Cortado

In case no one knows, a cortado is a Spanish-origin general term for a beverage consisting of espresso mixed with a roughly equal amount of warm milk to reduce the acidity. I also sometimes ask for wee bit of chocolate added. And when you find a barista who can make latte art it’s even better.  🙂
