I am so much more aware of all that is around me than during my thirties and forties. Much more present to life. Life has more fullness, more meaning and so simple. It is precious!
My online journal where I share my interests in photography, nature, journaling, fountain pens, bicycling, coffee life, spirituality and asking deep questions.
Today is my youngest daughters birthday. Happy birthday Monica! I love you!
This is one my favorite fountain pens, a Brown-marbled Pelikan M205 with a custom italic cursive nib from The Nibsmith.
In case no one knows, a cortado is a Spanish-origin general term for a beverage consisting of espresso mixed with a roughly equal amount of warm milk to reduce the acidity. I also sometimes ask for wee bit of chocolate added. And when you find a barista who can make latte art it’s even better.
“The world exists as you perceive it.It’s not what you see, but how you see it.It is not what you hear, but how you hear it.It is not what you feel, but how you feel it.”
Rumi
I’m re-reading David duChemin’s book The Soul of the Camera. I read it last year and just about done with my second pass. I thought this was his best book and feeling that still to be true.
The pen is my new TWSBI Classic in White with a medium nib. They make stiff steel nibs but all four TWSBI pens I’ve used are very smooth writers. I’m quite pleased with it.
“Every morning was a cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself.”
Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Well, not really as we pay for them somehow. Many coffee shops are setup to offer a discount after 10 or 12 purchases. Some even offer free drinks and food. I’ve never had the nerve to calculate how much money I spend just to have a $2.00 discount or free coffee. And, I probably won’t!
It has quietly snowed all day. Snow began early this morning about 7:00 am. Beautiful big flakes mixed with some rain. The rooftops and grass are white as this storm brings some much needed moisture. The temperature has stayed below freezing all day but does not feel cold. Winter is wanting to give us one more snowfall before allowing spring and summer to arrive.
I discovered a new coffeehouse, The Purple Cup. It is close to home, easy walking distance, and my first mocha latte was spot on. It has big comfy lounge chairs and sofas as well as tables and chairs. I’ll have to give it one more quality check before making it a regular hangout.
“Left to its own devices, my mind spends much of its time having conversations with people who aren’t there.” Anne Lamott
As, Anne Lamott suggests, we can have some strange conversations in our heads. What is troublesome is when we begin to believe these people and conversations exist. They are not reality so it’s important for us to take a few deep breaths and stay present to the moment. Let go of these unreal thoughts.
