    brush strokes of frost

Cottonwood leaves covered in frost – Arapaho Bend Natural Area in 2014

Wintery morning stroll in a world turned white
I love nature’s work of art created in the cold of night
So grateful for these lovely brush strokes of frost

I did not pick up my camera all day. A bit unusual for me. The sun has just set. I feel the need to write a post. So, I sit at my desk. The cold air gathers around my feet as I ask for words to write. I sort through them in the quiet. The furnace turns on. I no longer sit in silence. I stay in my chair awaiting for more words and they are given. This post is simple, nothing eloquent. It’s what I do and my way to reach out to a virtual world of friends. I’ll end with a prayer that you feel the love within you and sleep well.

    Being

Cottonwood trees along Overland Trail Road with layer of smoke across the nature area

“To be nobody-but-yourself — in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else — means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight.” E. E. Cummings

I took this image about three days ago just before the cold front moved in and the Cameron Peak Fire began raging. Even though the smoke is not conducive to walking I still drive to the natural areas for the serenity and closeness to the natural world. Sometimes I will sit in my car to journal or read, yet staying aware of all that’s around me. Sunshine this morning but smoke sitting atop of the mountains. The fires still burn.

    I’m ready now…

A favorite cottonwood tree along FIsher Nature area leading to Rowland Moore Park. I often find Red-tailed hawks perched in it.

I have been pretty good about taking my camera for daily walks during this stay-at-home order. Even got in the walks the past two days when it was snowing and cold, admittedly shorter. And the weather forecasters are telling us more snow, 3-8 inches, by Thursday. Enough already. Bring on spring, rain, thunderstorms, flowers, weeds and sunny walks. I’m ready now!

    Beautiful Questions

Cottonwood trees reflecting in a pond at Rocky Mountain Arsenal from 2011

“The ability to ask beautiful questions, often in very unbeautiful moments, is one of the great disciplines of a human life. And a beautiful question starts to shape your identity as much by asking it as it does by having it answered.”

    David Whyte

A few years ago I became less interested in answers and more interested in the questions. We already have too many people who have the answers. I’m grateful for the inquisitive minds in our world today, always looking for another question. Those questioning minds belong to the creatives, the prophets, researchers, the explorers, the seekers.

    Good Morning….

    Rowland Moore Park
    Rowland Moore Park

… from a wintry looking Colorado. I was shocked when I awoke this morning. It was quiet, very quiet, always a sign  we may have snow. Then in the distance I could faintly hear a snowplow along Prospect Road. My understanding of the forecast was for snow to start this evening and into Monday morning. It arrived much earlier than expected. I drove by Rowland Moore Park to get a few images of the snow. Looks like we have about 2 inches, a dry and fluffy snow. Probably a different look than Cedric, who is running the air-conditioner or heading the beach. I also hear a cold and frosty time for those along the east coast. Enjoy your Sunday!
