    Choosing Doors

“In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between, there are doors.”

    William Blake

The sun has melted the morning frost. There is still a thin layer of ice on the pond. And we never got above 40 degrees today. Gray skies now dominate so it both looks and feels cold.

In reference to Blake’s quote, I believe that each day does offer us doors to open or close. Today I both closed and opened doors. Due to exposure yesterday to Covid I changed my travel plans to spend an early Thanksgiving this week with my dad, my two sisters and brother-in-law and instead will celebrate his 94th birthday with him in January. There is no need to put my dad in any danger at his age. I feel a sadness. I want to be with my family.

I understand we cannot totally isolate ourselves from covid or any other virus or anyone who is indifferent to another’s safety. Nor can we protect others from any danger. I’m aware people are gathering again in large groups as if things are okay or they will be okay. I’ve heard there is now a cruise ship in Australia with almost 800 cases of COVID detected. And, I have moved back into the coffee shop routine. Aware that I am taking a risk for exposure, or worse yet, exposing someone. Yes, we have doors to choose, to open or close. I’m rethinking my stance on all this and may open fewer coffee shop doors and close a few. Just thinking out loud.

    A Good Start

I was able to muster up enough strength to remove the covers and get out of bed in order to arrive before dawn to Pineridge Natural Area this morning. I wouldn’t say it was balmy out but 25 degrees was not too bad. Eastern skies offered a pinch of pink in the predawn light. It was quiet and calm, just me and a couple of hungry cottontails. It’s a good start to this day.

I received a call last night from a longtime friend’s wife letting me know he was in the hospital with Covid pneumonia, on oxygen and isolated. Their son-in-law is also in the hospital and is not doing well at all. 😢 I pray we all take the necessary precautions to be safe and keep others safe. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

    Topsy-turvy

My time in Phoenix with my mother and then the 8 hour drive to Texas and back, was far more sedentary than I realized. I did not get in the steps like I needed so need to get back into a routine again. I’m sure more walking will increase also with the coming of cooler fall temperatures.

After a burst of lightning in Colorado over the past 48 hours aircraft from Colorado Fire Prevention and Control have spotted 37 small fires. We only have a couple that are of concern but the smoke is having a negative impact on our air quality. We will be dry and warm today with moisture arriving on Wednesday.

I received word yesterday afternoon that my dad and brother-in-law have tested positive for COVID-19. Both are tired and have little energy. My sister Marcee tested negative and my sister Sheree will test today. I’m scheduled for testing Thursday morning. Life is topsy-turvy right now. 😍

    Christmas cards

A cold morning. We received about one inch of snow from this storm. This was outside my condo this morning. They say it is to be mostly sunny today. Patches of blue sky and sunshine are now appearing.

My daughter woke last Monday morning not feeling well. Her employer told her to make an appointment for a COVID-19 test and stay home and not to return until she had test results. She works for Home Depot and is face-to-face with the public since this whole thing began. She was not able to get an appointment until Friday afternoon then had to wait in line for two hours. She received test results yesterday and tested positive. She is now in quarantine for two more weeks and gratefully will be paid for a full three weeks. She did not feel good for the first three days but felt much better last night. She has slept a lot and any sort of exertion causes her to be winded (stairs). She made me smile last night when talking to her on the phone because she is planning to make Christmas cards this year with all the free time. 😍 Good spirits!
