I found these leaves against the wood fence while on a walk around my hotel. Just after I returned to my room it began to rain. As I watched it rain from my window I noticed how the contrast had changed with the fence and leaves so dramatically. I realize how we so often will walk away with just the images we found at that particular moment. We can wish for better light or stronger contrast, or had a different lens with us, or had brought our flash, but that doesn’t really matter for me. I think what matters is we were out and about, looking for opportunities and experiencing these moments. I can’t have everything and for me, this image works just fine.

Never a Straight Path
Have you ever notice how man builds things using straight lines while nature does not? Just take a walk in nature then a walk around the block in New York City. Our journey on the path of life is never a straight path. I’ve discovered experiencing the reality of life is only blocked when one expects it to be a straight line. When that happens, we can get bent out of shape.

A different view…
It is almost the end of June and many of the cone flowers have almost come to the end of their season. Their petals and stamens are not a perfect due to rain, hail and wind. Yet, I wanted an image of one of my favorite flowers, so what could I come up with? I walked among and around this clump looking for a flower that was in good enough shape to photograph. None to be found. As I walked around the back side of this fence I had an idea (those do happen once in awhile.) I thought I would focus on the fence and leave the cone flowers out of focus. A different view…of one of my favorite flowers.

Dreams
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.” Henry David Thoreau (1817 – 1862)
- Take in the power of Thoreau’s words to inspire. This “dream” theme still bounces around inside my head. It seems my dreams are so far out there and at other times simple. Our dreams are in the distance among the fog and dimly seen, a vague outline. But, as in this image, when we move forward into the fog and mist we will see clearer our dreams. We may have obstacles to climb over. What dreams will we find in the mist?

The White Fence
The rain stopped. After two days of rain we awoke on Christmas morning to blue skies and sunshine. Temperature was 22 degrees when I crawled out of bed and made a drive east of town. I ended up in an area new to me so found some interesting subjects and more importantly to me, open space. I will post a few over the next few days. This fence was what caught my attention and played around with it for awhile. I hope everyone had a great Christmas Day!
