Another image taken at the CSU Experimental Gardens. We have had overcast skies and a lite rain for the past few days. This brings cooler temperatureS and higher humidity, so this morning I’m wearing a jacket. Forecast is for the same weather the next four days.
“I don’t believe in an outside agent that creates the world, then walks away. But I feel very strongly there is an intelligence at work in every flower, in every blade of grass, in every cell of my body. And it is that intelligence that, I wouldn’t say created the universe. It is creating the universe. It’s an ongoing process.”
Plants that tuck themselves in for bedtime exhibit a natural behavior known as nyctinasty. Scientists know the mechanism behind the phenomenon: In cool air and darkness, the bottom-most petals of certain flowers grow at a faster rate than the upper-most petals, forcing the flowers shut. I’m not sure what this flower is but I encountered a dozen of them along a raised garden on a late evening walk. All of them were closed. I may have to revisit these flowers to observe and learn more about them. Hope everyone has a super awesome weekend!
If I had to pick a single word to describe what my pictures are all about, I would say ‘secrets.’ As a child I always had a secret world and my favorite book was “A Secret Garden.”

Here is another image taken at the CSU trail garden I wandered through on the morning of the 4th. I sure did enjoy my time. It is amazing how many flowers and plants I do not know. I guess if I really was interested enough, I’d study about them. Anyway here is another from the garden.
I had a pretty quiet 4th of July but a busy one. An early bike ride to the coffee shop for a bit of reading and writing. I worked on some shots I took the night before. Did some shopping and bought a second pair of shorts as my older ones have shrunk. I spent a couple of hours at the CSU Trial Garden for some flower photos.
The garden was also quiet when I arrived but that soon changed after people finished their morning coffees and head over there. I was hoping for a butterfly image but the bees and wasps were happily coming into my viewfinder.
For a late lunch I made it over to a mom and pop shop called Taqueria Los Comales and devoured the carnitas plate (see image above). The only thing left on the plate when I finished was the skid mark from my nose when I licked the plate. Man, was it good! Gladly people are observing the fireworks ban so there have been very few fireworks going off. It was a quiet day.
My sister, Sheree, has been spending a lot of time and effort in her yard over the past 2-3 years. Her garden therapy session includes learning about the many plants available then putting them in and nurturing them (yes, she talks to them.) But through this process, her garden sanctuary is developing. As a visitor I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying her garden, checking on each new plant as it breaks through the soil sending shoots into the sunlight, grabbing my journal and lounging in one of her Adirondack chairs. While sitting on her bench along the east side of her house I noticed the back lit sun against the Iris leaves. First a smile of pleasure, enjoying the light, then grabbing the camera to take a photo. And, Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers in my life: mom, Chris, Monica, Marcee and Sheree!
On one of my day trips to Westerville, I discovered a small shop called SerenDipity. You can find a posting about my first visit and a photo of there front porch here. This time I ventured out on the patio and had it all to myself. I tried the Raspberry Cheesecake ice cream and will highly recommend it. Along the edge of the patio was a flower bed with these unique water sprinklers.
