    Meadow of Gold

    cloudless horizon
    chorus of song birds rising
    in meadow of gold

Sadly this image shows the smoky haze sitting along the Colorado Front Range from all the fires burning in the southwest. The haze hovers just above the horizon combined with a mix of emission pollution. There are currently, 47 large fires that have burned 519,761 acres across the country, per the National Interagency Fire Center website. The haze gives everything a golden glow to it. Today is expected to be in the 90’s. Be safe, stay cool!

    Among the Salsify

    among the salsify
    return to a sacred place
    morning sunrise

    ms

Awoke early so arrived at Pineridge Natural Area just after 5:00 am. It was already 69 degrees and hardly any breeze. Quiet all around me. A stillness. I walked down the trail from my bench to where there are several salsify plants and patiently waited with them for this morning’s sunrise. I take deep breaths, grateful for life. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    Two Scones

    profile in mirror
    shows obvious girth increase
    two scones too many

Shout out to my barista, Jack, for this image. After they make these scones and have cooled down, they wrap them, place them at the counter, temping everyone who enters. Obviously practicing good marketing. Anyway the word for my #haikuchallenge today was “obvious.” So, while trying to be creative this morning I came up with the above haiku and then the idea for the image. Jack helped by putting two scones on the plate and I took the image. No, I did not eat either but made my Irish oats with raisins when I got home. 😁

    I Like to Smile

    cool breeze from the south
sky filled with cotton ball clouds
    wise kingbird sings

    ms

This time of year the sun rises early and I seem to follow suit. Made my chai latte and was out the door at roughly 5:06 am. The sky was filled with altocumulus clouds when I arrived at Pineridge Natural Area, where it seems nature had randomly thrown up cotton balls, bringing on a smile. I’m okay with that cuz I like to smile. Sat on the bench with my camera, binoculars, journal, my chai, a vitally needed coat and listened to all the birds singing.

In case you’re wondering, altocumulus clouds are a middle-altitude cloud genus that belongs mainly to the stratocumuliform physical category characterized by globular masses or rolls in layers or patches, the individual elements being larger and darker than those of cirrocumulus and smaller than those of stratocumulus. (Wikipedia) I think calling them cotton balls is easier and more understandable. 😁
