Sunny, windy afternoon walk with my camera in Old Town this past weekend. Not much time on the streets this past year, preferring to spend my time within nature. Shadow and lines was the gift received this day. It is 10 degrees this morning, overcast skies and a snowflake ❄ is seen every once in a while. Stay warm!

    Order and Chaos

Nature creates with chaos and man creates with order, or so it seems. Both make use of lines and curves to create. Architecture feels mostly ordered, static and has a rigid feeling to it. Nature feels more flexible, relaxed, in constant movement, never static and is free flowing.

I leave in the morning for my sabbatical to spend time in reading, writing, studying, prayer/meditation, quiet, learning to listen to the other within me. I have been uncovering, discovering, discarding the stinking thinking I had about myself and the world around me. Hoping this time with others on similar paths will continue in that process. Nervous and yet excited. What will I discover? I’m heading into this with as much openness as I am capable of. Yesterday was my 69th birthday so this is like a gift I’m giving to myself.

I do not expect to post much or read many of your amazing posts but will check whenever I can. They have a couple of computer on site for checking email so what access to the internet will be with my phone’s cellular data or some coffee shop I may find on a weekend. I’m actually looking forward to some time away from the internet, much like our friend Cedric just had for 2 months. I’m aware I spend too much time on it. See ya later.

    Waking Up

Morning Shadows and my Desk Lamp
Morning Shadows and my Desk Lamp

    “Spirituality means waking up.”

    Anthony de Mello

Good morning! Hoping you’re awake. And, if not, then I’ll let you know this is my desk lamp with shadows coming in from my bedroom window. Another one of those surprise scenes that was given just as I was about to leave the house. Had to be awake though.

Seems I have lived most of my life with a thinking cap that believed the best time to start a project and put the work in to move towards finishing the project, was tomorrow. At this stage of life I approach each day with new attitudes and a trust in myself that was missing in the past. I attribute this change to some healthy maturity, some inner work, authors who have helped me, photography, journaling, unclouded thinking, accepting failures as a part of life, finding a spiritual path, putting in the work and chocolate. Having a network of fellow photographers has been essential also. Those of you who follow along on this blog, sharing your insights with me can pat yourselves on the back. I now have on a new thinking cap. Hope you have a great Friday and weekend!

    Lines and Shadows

    Pergola on the back patio.

Whenever my sister, Sheree, and I go down to visit at Thanksgiving our dad always had some pre-cut piece of wood for us to carve. so, we sit on the back patio and carve to our hearts desire. I think I took a similar image like this last year so I apologize if it looks similar.

    Seeing Lines

Stairs and Lines at CSU Campus
Stairs and Lines at CSU Campus

I’m spending more time on campus now that I’m auditing this philosophy class at Colorado State University. A friend of mine is teaching the class and invited me to sit in on the class. And, I am enjoying the class. I take the bus to campus about an hour prior to class then spend a few minutes in the Behavior Science Building where they have a small and busy little coffee shop. These lines lead up the stairs to the other 2 floors and a beautiful patio area looking west to the Front Range. Have a good week.
