    Merry Christmas from Colorado

Four Pelicans searching for breakfast at Pineridge Natural Area

We have at least 3 inches of snow here in town while, the mountains got much more. Heavy, wet, slushy, with icy and slick roads this morning.

Snow covered trees along Overland Trail

It seems this savings times thingy really works. The saying goes: spring forward and fall back. Well we seem to have jumped all the way to Christmas of 2021. Sheesh!😁

Sun trying to break through the clouds at Reservoir Ridge

Even though I don’t like the cold anymore, it’s 28 degrees, the beauty of fresh snowfall is breathtaking. Have a great day and stay warm!

A cloudy and cold morning at Pineridge Natural Area. No wind, no bird songs, all was quiet. I was the only one there this morning. Seemed everyone else stayed in bed or had a second cup of coffee. There were several cottontails checking me out: Are you friend or foe? They have that alertness, always present to where they and you are. Where we seem to wander in thought, seldom staying present. I stayed more present this morning as I let them teach me.

    Morning Treats

This past week I was on the east side of town searching for sunrise photos and stopped by Bindle Coffee. Had a mocha and a maple knot croissant that was too die for. They had the fire pit on the patio going so I sat out there, keeping close to the warmth and enjoyed my morning treats. Yes, I do spoil myself.

    It Ain’t the Same

I just missed the red and pink of the sunrise because my warm bed held me hostage a few minutes longer than I wanted. Anyway, one thing I like about watching sunrises or sunsets is experiencing them with all my senses. I prefer to get out of my car, feel the cold wind (sometimes) and listen to the silence or the song birds or both. For this short period of time I’m trying to eliminate all man made noise. That is the connection I want with nature. Oh, I can sit in my car and watch the sunrise with the car running but it ain’t the same.

    Now open

    empty parking lot
    gate closed due to snow

This is sunrise three days ago at Pineridge Natural Area. The area was closed until today due to snow so I pulled along the rode and took this image. It is a different perspective of a common theme I am drawn to. What you see below is is the lower parking area. I normally park in the upper parking lot as I gives me the higher view. I cannot see the horizon when in the lower parking lot. It is now open but the trails will probably take a bit longer to reopen due to mud.
