Not the only way to start the morning but it works.

Sunrise and the Fence Post
This image is post processed using an extreme HDR Pro 2 preset. I like it. There is no sign of the city. No sounds of the city. Just the wind blowing in the grass. It’s an image that reminds me why I get up early, make my latte, and drive east to watch the sun come up.
But, there is another reason I get up early. The birds! As took the above image a couple meadowlarks were singing in the back ground. Ever notice how birds are up early? And, they’re singing. And, they’re happy. Ever wonder why? Well, maybe it’s because, as William Camden says, “The early bird catches the worm.” Or, in this case it’s probably going to be flying insects, but still. Begs the question why the insects are out so early. Why don’t they just sleep in late and not get caught? One of those nature things. But without all that circle of life stuff, I wouldn’t get to enjoy hearing them sing in the morning when I get up early.

“The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large.”
ConfuciusMorning latte and quiet meditation time at home. Hope your day is filled with good thoughts.

One of the Regulars
On early morning trips to any one of my favorite coffee shops you will find a few regulars and I’m not talking about regular coffee. John is one the regulars. The baristas always greet him when he walks in the door carrying the morning paper under his arm and sharing his inviting smile. The baristas know him, the customers know him. It’s people like John that make the world a good place to call home.

The Chair
I acquired a new chair about 4 weeks ago. It’s a recliner/rocker and fits my posterior nicely. someone was throwing it away so I hauled it upstairs, bought some upholstery cleaner, scrubbed it down with a sponge, vacuumed it out and poof, we have a new chair for me. Looks like new! One of the things I miss about my condo back in Colorado was the bay window in my bedroom that faced southeast. I enjoyed spending my mornings sitting in a similar rocker with my latte, having quiet time, or reading, or writing and watching the sun come up. It’s a wonderful way to start my day.
Happy New Years to all my blogging friends!

Just Before Sunrise
While visiting my parents in Gold Canyon AZ, I decided to rise early and drive out to Peralta Road on the south side of the Superstition Mountains for some sunrise shots. I was given more than just a sunrise as I discovered this owl perched on a saguaro. I believe it is a Great Horned Owl and is probably searching for one more morsel before finding a cool place to spend the day. There is something special about being there just before sunrise.

I miss those clouds…
This morning I needed to drive to Fort Collins so I took the back roads hoping for some photo opportunities. As I’ve mentioned before I notice how often the sky in the midwest is a flat gray with very little texture, pattern or color. While in Colorado the clouds paint a wonderful scene to warm the heart and help start the day. Along with these beautiful mornings comes the cold, it was in the high 40’s this morning. Strangely I did seem to notice. I do miss the morning and evening clouds in Colorado.
