Within 15 Feet
I read somewhere about an exercise where we needed to focus on seeing subjects within 15 feet of our bed. So on a rainy day it seemed as good a day as any and we had nice diffused light. There was more to see but three images is enough to bore you.
This exercise could also be an ongoing project. Just thinking, yes I know that’s dangerous, that maybe setting aside one day a month or a week and look around my room to see what presents itself.

Happy Mother’s Day!
It has been raining for the past several days. Thankfully it has been a gentle and refreshing rain and much needed moisture. We have seen severe weather conditions over the past few days. There have been tornado warnings, hail warnings, flash flood warnings, and winter weather warnings. Temperatures started to drop down to freezing yesterday afternoon. As it dropped the rain changed to snow, heavy wet snow. My understanding is some areas of Colorado had as much as 6 inches of snow.
Fort Collins is reporting over 2.5 inches of moisture the past 3 days. The 1 to 3 inches of snow they predicted for last night fizzled out. We only received a dusting of snow as you can see in the above image taken this morning of a favorite cottonwood along the Fisher Nature Trail. The image below was taken yesterday afternoon from my bedroom window during some heavier rain.
And, Happy Mother’s Day to all!

Pay Attention to the Urge
I’m not sure how it happened. I was working through some images from 2009 taken at Inniswood Gardens when I discovered these two images. It seems I did very little with them at the time and most likely because I had shot a lot of images that day. It was a cloudy, overcast day with light rain and I’m in this beautiful garden, why not. For some reason I found the only keyword I had entered for either of these images was Inniswood Gardens. There was no keyword for dragonfly or plants or leaves or rain. Nothing. How the heck am I suppose to find them without keywords, unless I’m just browsing? I suspect slothfulness or skipped them because other images were more appealing to me. I could have skipped the dragonfly because it is a bit out of focus.
However, this time around they caught my eye. They also reminded me of those rainy, overcast days that provided such wonderfully diffused light while I lived in Ohio. It also reminded me of how often I came home with wet pants (from the knee down) when it was raining or just rained. I played with them a little, and for my taste, I like the way these two images turned out. My post processing included exposure, tone and contrast. Pretty simple actually. Why I did not play with these five years ago, I don’t know. But, five years ago something within urged me to press that shutter button. I must pay more attention to the urge.
Oh, and these flowers? Well, I’m going to throw them in because I have the urge too. 🙂

A late post.
We have had two nice rains this afternoon, nice gentle rain but giving us about .8 inches of much needed moisture. After the first storm moved through I drove up the dam on Horsetooth Reservoir to shoot out across the city and eastern plains. The second storm moved in behind me while walking around Pineridge Reservoir at the foot of the dam. I go a bit wet but loved the smell and refreshing cool air.

After the Rain
” The best thing one can do when its raining is let it rain.” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Nothing like walking around after a rain with a camera in hand. Scenes are to be found and I so love the smell of fresh rain.

Storm Clouds
I drove out east to the Arapahoe Nature Area to watch and photograph the above storm as it slowly moved in a southeasterly direction. This path took the storm over the city of Fort Collins bringing heavy rains and small hail. As I drove towards town I met a jogger who was drenched and getting beat up with the hail. He was glad I picked him up, thanking me as I dropped him off at work. He was getting his lunch time run and had already run three miles with about three to go. That’s another reason for not jogging at my age.
