    Worn Out Boot

    One well used boot

A farmer has a row of fence posts adorned with old boots and shoes. Whether he put them there or people have stopped and put them on the posts is a mystery. But after passing them by several times I finally stopped and took a few shots. I enjoyed this boot the most because of the worn out sole. It looks like someone put these boots to the test.

    What a Gift

    Nature's Gifts

The morning this image was made I woke up late. The sun was shining through my window. I took a shower and dressed ready to start the day. I walked into the living room and noticed the sky was now cloudy and large snow flakes were falling. Making sure my windows were not dirty, I went back to the bedroom window and saw the same thing. I knew I shouldn’t have washed the car! Anyway, by noon the clouds broke and the light was magical. Grabbing the tripod I headed east to see natures art and get away from the city. What a gift it is!

As a side note: we’re getting a nice dose of winter this morning. It started snowing late last night and is expected to continue into tonight and tomorrow. Forecasting 5-10 inches along the front range. They cancelled my first flight this morning and now report this afternoon. It’s a morning for a cup of hot chocolate, another gift. Stay warm!

    Blue Skies

    Blue Skies

This is another image where it pays to look up. My dad and I had walked to a coffee shop located in a small shopping mall and were on our way back to the house when I looked up and saw this gorgeous blue sky framed by the buildings. Dad waited as I took a few frames. It reminds me of younger years hiking with my dad. I wonder how much I missed because I was so focused on the trail in my attempt to keep up with him and not stumble. Photography has taught me to slow down, look around and see all that is present to me. Dont’ want to miss those blue skies.

    Everything Changes

    Flying Around

I love nature. I love being in nature, listening to it, smelling it, learning from it. Yet, I spend a lot of time venturing the streets of the city with a camera. Light is what gives our images power. The direction and reflection of light will show us the lines and curves of a building. These lines will hopefully direct the viewer to see, and feel, what we felt at the moment of capture or bring forth whatever feelings from their life’s experiences. Now add a bird against the blue sky and everything changes. But it’s still all about the light.

    Can you see me?

    Can you see me?

After loading this image into Lightroom I noticed a spot in the sky on the right hand side. The sensor on my D300 is pretty good about staying clean, but I must admit to slacking about cleaning my lens. So, I was not too surprised when I saw a large spot on this image. However, it was not on the rest of the images in the series. Upon a closer look I discovered it was a dragon fly caught in flight. This brings up something I’ve been noticing about this summer, there seems to be a lot of dragonflies this year. They are abundant around our lake and when I’m out in the fields. The other afternoon I was outside having an iced tea at a local coffee house when one decided to pay me a visit. It circled around me then landed on the tip of my straw. I started talking to it but it only seemed like a one way conversation. Can you see it? You can click on the image to enlarge it. Anyone else notice an increase in dragon flies this summer?
