Cold and light snow falling. Laundry is almost done. Will meet Joe in a few minutes for coffee. Plan to read and journal later. It’s a simple day, a simple post. And, you’ve not seen a post of my journal and fountain pens since March 28th. Way overdue! 😁
I saw a weather report last night that showed the impact level of the storm over the last three days. The levels ranged from little/none, limited, elevated, significant, extreme and dig out. We are now in the dig out stage but probably later this afternoon. This is my car this morning at 7:40. I tried to clear some of the snow off but it’s solid because of its moisture content and last night’s temperatures were in the teens. No way will I be able to get out of the parking lot even if I get the car cleaned off.. Watched my neighbor with a lifted up 4-wheel drive pickup truck struggle to get out. Then the young lady with a Subaru Forester like mine needed pushed and dug out. I will let nature clean my car off and the contractors to plow the parking lot. I measured again this morning and I still see 16 inches. But the sun’s out. 😊
A much needed snowfall began falling last night and has fallen all day. Along with the snow comes the cold. We’re at about 12 degrees now and will be in single digits tonight. I say much needed snow because it will help in quelling some of the fire activity from spreading. It will not however put out the fires. Forest fires will smolder under snow then blow up again after the melt. I do find it interesting to hear people being excited about the snow because of the fires. Normally people are put off with the first major snowfall as it means the coming of winter and cold. What I hear today is, “Bring it on!”
“One way God connects us to nature is through giving us the capacity to appreciate and be fascinated by its beauty. We find nature marked by such patterns as simplicity, harmony, balance, and a mysterious quality of vibrancy.” Tilden Edwards
I stopped in awe and took in the wonder of this tranquil scene yesterday morning after Friday’s snowfall. It was the shadows and the undisturbed snow that called to me. I like to think of it as an inaudible voice heard deep within me. I was a bit surprised to find this large of an area of undisturbed snow with no tracks and painted with soft long early morning shadows. As you may well know I am drawn to these scenes. I find a beauty and serenity that touches somewhere within me, especially when I find it in a busy city, or in this case a college campus. I’m not sure I set out searching for them as much as it seems they are presented, or gifted to me. However, I must be aware of the world around me, listening to the voice within and have my camera with me.
Here are a couple of images from Rowland Moore Park taken about 7:30 this morning. I will guess we have 4-6 inches of snow from this storm. While wandering around the park this morning I was surprised with how much water is flowing into the ponds. They will be full before this day is over. Thankfully we are not cold and therefore it will melt quickly and give us much needed moisture. One weather station said we have 3.8 inches.
It is time for my yearly physical and I also need one before the cataract surgery. So, that will happen this morning. No coffee or food for right now. Stay warm!
This image was taken yesterday afternoon about 2:30 pm, outside my condos front door. Colorado weather is fickle, unpredictable. On Tuesday we reached 75 degrees then 24 hours later we have the above scene. I would not want to be a meteorologist out here.
I’m guessing total accumulation was somewhere between 4-6 inches this morning when cleaning off my car. Of course this time of the year we always have rain first then rain and snow and finally snow. It’s about 20 degrees right now, expecting a low tonight of 20 degrees. I must admit I like the beauty of spring snows and how quickly they melt. 🙂
After my cardiac rehab yesterday morning I hibernated in my condo. Got a lot of writing done and cooked up a pot of beef chili soup. Stay warm!
A wintery good morning from Colorado. Yesterday Colorado State University had their homecoming football game with clear blue skies, bright sunshine and 61 degrees at kickoff. Clouds began to move in from the northwest and the temperature started dropping by the beginning of the fourth quarter. I noticed a few fans walking home from the game in shorts and t-shirts, paying the price of not layering.
This morning at 6:30 we were at 23 degrees with 3-5 inches of snow, much needed moisture. Under the snow was a layer of ice from the rain we received before turning to snow. This is Colorado and one of the things I enjoy about living here. After my quiet prayer and meditation I made a visit to Rowland Moore Park for a few wintery scenes. This is one of them. Have a super Sunday!
