    “the shot”

There is no the shot. There are photographs you’ve made—and photographs you will make, but there is no one, single, “the shot.” Not while you’re still photographing, there isn’t.

    David duChemin

The above quote is a from David’s latest post. I enjoyed the read and wanted to share it with you. I’ve always connected with his writing, read all six of his books, but I was impressed with his concept that there is always another image yet to be taken. So, I’ll say to you now that I did not get the shot on this image but I will try again. And the final image in his post left me speechless.

    Pretty Pitchers

In the United States law, federally designated wilderness is famously defined as ‘an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain.’ One environmental ethics text defines natural like this: ‘Something is natural to the extent that it is independent of human design, control, and impacts.’ Definitions like this start with a basic assumption that human beings are not part of nature. They assume, in fact, that humans are the opposite of nature, that our influence makes a thing less wild or natural. And I simply reject this premise.
After many years, I have come to see the concepts of wilderness and nature as not just unscientific but damaging.

    Emma Marris

It was amazingly warm this morning, 38 degrees when I left the condo about 6:15 am. I headed to Pineridge Natural Area to greet the sun then needed to take my car in for an oil change. Walked over to Starbucks to get a latte then caught the bus home.

Way too many cars with only one person in them. Admittedly I am a part of that problem and it eats at me. This town is very bus, bicycling and walking friendly. It is also environmental friendly with all its parks and natural area. They offer everyone the opportunity to be a part of nature, to be changed by it, leaving the car at home. I’ve been apart from nature for too many years because there is still a small part within me that thinks I’m not a part of nature. Yet, more time in nature has touched that essence within me that knows I am a part of nature. Aware of a desire to live a more vibrant and healthy concept of wilderness in wilderness. Taking pretty pitchers is not enough. Yes, I know, I sound like a broken record. Have another Awesome day!

    Hang on to your hat…

There are no unsacred places; there are only sacred places and desecrated places.

    Wendell Berry

Groggily awake at 4:00 am. After quiet time and a bowl of hot Irish Oats with blueberries I bundled up and headed to Pineridge Natural Area to catch the predawn colors. Nothing like an 18 degree morning to fully wake up. I was not disappointed as Mother Nature gifted me with wonderful colors. I read somewhere that a beautiful red sunrise or sunset must have clouds, just as our life does.

They say it will be windy and warm today. The strongest winds are expected in the foothills where a High Wind Warning is in effect for wind gusts up to 80 mph. Hang on to your hat! Snow tomorrow.

    Wise words….

    Arapaho Bend Natural Area

“You are a light. You are the light. Never let anyone—any person or any force—dampen, dim or diminish your light. Study the path of others to make your way easier and more abundant. Lean toward the whispers of your own heart, discover the universal truth, and follow its dictates. […] Release the need to hate, to harbor division, and the enticement of revenge. Release all bitterness. Hold only love, only peace in your heart, knowing that the battle of good to overcome evil is already won. Choose confrontation wisely, but when it is your time don’t be afraid to stand up, speak up, and speak out against injustice. And if you follow your truth down the road to peace and the affirmation of love, if you shine like a beacon for all to see, then the poetry of all the great dreamers and philosophers is yours to manifest in a nation, a world community, and a Beloved Community that is finally at peace with itself.”

    A Good Start

I was able to muster up enough strength to remove the covers and get out of bed in order to arrive before dawn to Pineridge Natural Area this morning. I wouldn’t say it was balmy out but 25 degrees was not too bad. Eastern skies offered a pinch of pink in the predawn light. It was quiet and calm, just me and a couple of hungry cottontails. It’s a good start to this day.

I received a call last night from a longtime friend’s wife letting me know he was in the hospital with Covid pneumonia, on oxygen and isolated. Their son-in-law is also in the hospital and is not doing well at all. 😢 I pray we all take the necessary precautions to be safe and keep others safe. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

    Finding Delight

Wisdom consists in doing the next thing you have to do, doing it with your whole heart, and finding delight in doing it.

    Meister Eckhart

Just maybe seeking wisdom is a more fruitful path than just seeking knowledge and information. Could it be the more we connect our hearts, intuition, gut feeling with the knowledge of our minds the more whole we become? Happy Sunday! 😊

    It’s a way of life…

    Inner peace is more
    than a state of mind!
It is a way of life.

    Native American

It’s Wednesday evening. I am scheduling this post for just after midnight. It has been snowing all afternoon, a nice silent snowfall that makes it all seem even quieter. I plan on sleeping in late. Have no desire to get up early and drive somewhere so looked in the archives for this image taken last year. If it’s cheating then I’m guilty. At my age I can break the rules.

Had a doctors appointment yesterday because of increased back pain and some loss of feeling in my buttocks. My scoliosis I’ve had for decades is degenerating. X-rays showed bone spurs and the disks are in very poor shape. We will try some anti-inflammatory medicine first and continue my stretching and strengthening exercises. If these do not help then maybe an injection in his office. I’ve lived with it for many years and probably live with it until I die. Could be one of the driving factors where I look for inner peace as a way of life.
