    Sunday Morning Sunrise

    Sunrise at Prospect Ponds
    Sunrise at Prospect Ponds

Prospect Ponds are one of the nature areas co-managed by Fort Collins Utilities and the Natural Areas Department for flood control, water quality improvement and wildlife habitat. For those with a fishing license you will find large-mouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish to add to your stringer. The Poudre Nature Trails follow along the western  edge of the ponds and in fact that is where I am standing. It’s located on east Prospect Road and Sharp Point Drive along side of the business park. I dragged my butt out of bed at 4:30 am, made a french press then drove the three miles out there and setup my tripod. There were 4 pelicans floating on the south end of the ponds which I left alone. I watched a heron fly in on the far side of the pond, land in one of a trees then a few minutes later move into the waters edge for breakfast.

    Memorial Day Begins

Memorial Day Sunrise on County Road 13

I awoke at 4:00 am, made a French Press coffee, put it in my thermos then drove out east to Weld County in anticipation of the morning sunrise. It is a beautiful day. We had a few rain showers yesterday afternoon which makes it a bit humid and therefore I came home chilled. However, the need to be out there and listen to all the Meadowlarks singing to me and watch the sun rise was worth it.

No smog in Colorado after yesterdays winds and gusts up to 45 mph. Had to hang on to my hat. Hoping everyone has a wonderful week.

    Morning Bus Ride

    Listening to Tunes
    Listening to Tunes

This is a common scene in the morning as I head for the Transit Center on campus. Students sit in foggy states, staring off into space and earbuds plugged in. There are many reasons for this state. It may be way too early in the morning for them, or they may have stayed up way to late watching a movie, studying or it could be both. I know the feeling as some mornings my thinker is just not functioning yet. Anyway, I’m on campus with a breve mocha this morning and awake. Have a super awesome week!

A winter snow storm came through Wednesday morning and moved out by noon on Thursday. It has brought some cold temperatures and 6-8 inches of snow. It’s 7:30 am and my weather app and car both say -9 degrees. Have not been too interested in going out so I played with some images. This image was taken a few years ago and converted in Silver EFEX Pro using one of their presets. Here is the color version,

    Happy New Year!

I do not normally post favorites of the past year as it just did not interest me. However, it is a good exercise to reflect back over the past year because we can assume nothing much happened. Reflection is wonderful so here are a couple things that happened this past year.

I had a chronic medical problem reach a critical stage in late May and needed to have surgery. The surgery was a success and the quality of my life improved greatly.

I did take in a couple of trips. One trip took me the Phoenix area for about 6 weeks. I did some camping on my drive down; one night in The Great Sand Dunes and one night at Canyon De Chelly National Monument. I was able to spend quality time with my parents which is always good. Then my sister and I flew down to Phoenix for Thanksgiving with family. Awesome time and way to much food consumed.

I’m enamored again with fountain pens. Had several given to me and purchased six of my own. Now have 14 to choose from each morning when I pick up my journal. Let’s see, what color of pen and ink to want to use today is the biggest decision to start the day. 🙂

Most of my photography seemed to be focused on the street scenes, candid portraits and fewer landscapes. I also did a few portraits. I worked more with black and white images for the year. Anyway, below are a few images I like from this past year.

It is my hope everyone has a wonderful 2017 filled abundantly with joy, love, peace, serenity, adventure, family, friends, new beginnings and dark chocolate.

A Morning Walk in the Desert

    Morning Walk in the Desert

Here is another image from my trip in October to the Phoenix area. This is on the south side of the Superstition Mountains along the Peralta Trail Road. It is a wonderful place to find quite. You will hear a coyote howl, a cactus wren call out, and no sign of man. This is three jpeg images run through HDR Efex Pro.
