    Windmill and Trees

    Windmill
    Windmill

Just outside of the town of Follett, Texas on Ranch Road 1454 is this pair of trees and windmill that had caught my attention earlier in the day. I am fascinated by the wide open spaces of prairie. You can see for miles watching storm clouds form in the distance. Nature at its best. It is amazing to see a single tree or small group of 2-3 trees standing alone on the prairie. Out of nowhere they stand up to the constant wind. These two trees are near a cattle watering hole where the windmill points into the wind for its power to pump water from the well.

This past weekend was spent in the northeast corner of the Texas Panhandle to celebrate my parents 60th wedding anniversary. They were married June 1, 1949 in the Methodist Church of the small town of Follett, Texas. I have many relatives in the area and unfortunately do not visit them as often as I could. One evening I drove out west of town to try and get some images of the grain elevators when the setting sun could light them up.

My parents took me to the exact location were dad proposed to my mother. They also showed me a couple of places where we lived when I was first born. This small town has a population of about 400 people. The community is primarily populated with farmers and ranchers. They do work hard and have that laid back mentality. Everyone knows each other, people are friendly and inviting. My sisters and I walked to the drug store for a cherry coke just as we did when we were younger. A pretty inviting life style to me but I wonder how many people could live without there shopping malls or their favorite coffee shop within a 30 minute drive?
