A poet is somebody who feels, and who expresses his feelings through words.
E. E. Cummings
This may sound easy. It isn’t.
A lot of people think or believe or know they feel — but that’s thinking or believing or knowing; not feeling. And poetry is feeling — not knowing or believing or thinking.
Almost anybody can learn to think or believe or know, but not a single human being can be taught to feel. Why? Because whenever you think or you believe or you know, you’re a lot of other people: but the moment you feel, you’re nobody-but-yourself.
To be nobody-but-yourself — in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else — means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

Dare to be Ourselves
“We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.”
May SartonSame place, different day, different canvas, different colors and clouds than yesterday. Makes me smile when I think about the constant of change and variety of scenes within nature. As I stepped out of the car this morning at Pineridge Natural Area, I noticed two young women wrapped in blankets getting ready to sit on the bench and watch the sunrise. One of them said good morning Monte. Surprised, I asked how they knew me. They said I met them last winter up here and they still had my card. When they saw me get out of the car they figured it was me. So, I find it interesting that within many of us is a desire to be known by others. While at the same time we can be known by people and never be aware of it. Which leads me to ask myself this morning why I need to worry about it. Seems Mary Sarton is correct, we just need to dare to be ourselves and let life be what it is.
Cold weather is heading this way so it will be frigid the next four days. For sure two blankets sleeping weather. Excited to meet with my oldest daughter, Christine, for lunch today. Stay warm and be yourself!

Be Yourself
The snow goose need not bathe to make itself white. Neither need you do anything but be yourself.
Lao TzuRode the bus and then walked to a coffee shop. I found this yellow daisy among the smaller white flowers and needed to accept the gift of this image. A light rain fell last night. It is cloudy and cool this morning. We may see rain this evening and into tomorrow. Hoping so! May you enjoy your day and be yourself.
