My online journal where I share my interests in photography, nature, journaling, fountain pens, bicycling, coffee life, spirituality and the mystery of it all.
I watched the supermoon from my condo, having no real interest in shooting images of it. However, I changed my mind and took a half dozen shots. Since I no longer have a focal length greater than 55mm this is it. I like how it turned out, giving a view of what the human eye sees rather than the typical closeup. This tree is in my front yard so I framed the moon with it and allowed the street light to illuminate the tree.
Bicycles are everywhere on and off campus. After taking this image and continuing my walk home I had all these silly questions come to mind. This shows you how disturbed my mind is.
First question is identifying my bike. Now where did I lock up my bike?
And when I can’t locate it, “Is this the bicycle rack or is it on the south side?”
Did someone steal it?
Oh oh! There are two with a red rim wheel on front and green rim wheel on the rear. Which one is mine?
Wait! Was mine green on the front and red on the rear? I’m confused now.
Now that’s cool. Maybe I should buy a ringer like that. Wonder where they bought it.
Now that I found it, I can’t remember the combination to the lock?
As I look at this image I wonder how do they know which one is theirs and where did they put it?
There is an atrium at Colorado State University’s Morgan Library. I find this area a wonderful place for students, and ex-students, to hang out and study while sipping on a coffee. There is no piped in music so it is quiet and peaceful. As I write this post the leaves are fluttering like snowflakes all around me. This is a favorite time of the year for me as the temperatures are enjoyable, both night and day. But, it also is a reminder that real snowflakes will be arriving sooner than I want.
Enjoying the Sunshine
There is a coffee shop just inside the library called Morgan’s Grind. They have a decent cup of coffee, as well as lattes, both at very reasonable prices. The shop must have 15 tables and each will have at least one student camped with books and laptop. Now if you show up at 7:00 am when they open, you can have your pick of tables. No students will be found at that early. Along the east window is a bar for students to study or read the campus newspaper.
I took this on the bus this past Friday. Not sure how many people are awake at this time of the morning to see this scene. Many are still half asleep. Have a Super day!
It was 22 years ago today my first grandchild was born. A grandson, named Daryian. I have some good memories from my times with him. He and his mother lived with me when he was younger. I remember changing diapers. I remember walking the floor with him when he was sick and could not sleep. I remember taking him with me on Monday evenings to a favorite restaurant for spaghetti dinner. What a mess to cleanup but so worth it. I remember getting down on my knees as we checked out every bug that walked in front of us. I remember him telling me I was too big to climb up on the playground equipment and go down the slide. I did anyway.
My walk across campus allows me to see hundreds of bicycles. The dorm rooms are inundated with them. Riders are everywhere along with skateboards. And, there are colors from one end of the rainbow to the other.
I have been doing a lot more shopping at the local farmers market this summer. There is a farm offering a five pound bag that you can fill for $10 or half full for $5. I like to go for the half full bag. It’s surprising how much I can get. One morning the guy leaned forward, smiled and told me to grab a cantaloupe. I find it interesting how disgusting (dirty) the food seems to young kids who have only known food from a supermarket. I think this guy has what he wants.
Sunset at Kingfisher Point – Nix Farmhouse in the Background
Being on the restless side I headed east with no specific place to go or be. I ended up at the Environmental Learning Center and enjoyed a much-needed walk. Disappointed I did not see any deer but I did see the Great Horned Owl “whoooo” has been there all summer. Pretty much had the place to myself.
On my way home I could see a few clouds hanging over the mountains which offered hope for sunset colors. I pulled into the Kingfisher Point Natural Area parking lot. I have only been there one other time. It is primarily a fishing area with just under a miles worth of trails. No cars in the parking lot so I headed for the ponds.
The afternoon in the quiet of nature, the sunset, the persistent mosquitos and nats, the chilly fall air, all made me aware of how vital it is to be in nature for my health, both mentally and physically. It turned out to be just what the doctor ordered. The restless spirit has subsided and I slept like a baby.
It’s easy for me to catch the bus from my condo, just a 3 minute walk. The bus system provides access to most of town but it may require transferring buses. This image was made while waiting for the first bus of the day.
