“The world exists as you perceive it.It’s not what you see, but how you see it.It is not what you hear, but how you hear it.It is not what you feel, but how you feel it.”

I’m re-reading David duChemin’s book The Soul of the Camera. I read it last year and just about done with my second pass. I thought this was his best book and feeling that still to be true.
The pen is my new TWSBI Classic in White with a medium nib. They make stiff steel nibs but all four TWSBI pens I’ve used are very smooth writers. I’m quite pleased with it.

Very nice, Monte! Before, I didn’t used to re-read books, now, I’ve come back to a few books that I really enjoy – mostly they are inspirational books.

I always find something I missed the first time or was added since the first reading.

David has a good way of teaching and I’ve learned a lot from him. It’s an admittedly personal bias but I sometimes get put off by his preaching about how gear isn’t important but he always has the coolest stuff.

I have also felt as you do. He stresses how great images are made by the photographer with the camera as the tool. Great images can be made with any camera but the newer cameras and their technology allows to be more creative, or in his words expand our vision.

Haha to Tom’s comment, I have noted the same from him and a few others. 🙂 There are definitely some perks that come along with some types of equipment, I don’t know why so many photographer are “afraid” to admit that. It’s not that it is necessary, just makes life easier at times.
I have not read this book, perhaps will put on my list to check out.

His writing is not for everyone but he does resonate with me. This book is all black and white images and all were taken on foreign soil. This book worked for me more than his others.
