Eerie Red Sun

The sun trying to shine through the smoke and clouds

This is not the easiest scene to photograph but it’s much easier than trying to fight a forest fire. The sun has been an eerie red color for the past few evenings due to the smoke generated by the Cameron Peak Fire.  I have stopped in my tracks several times to just look at the bright red color of the sun. As of last night the fire had grown to over 12,000 acres and has crossed over Highway 14. Today’s temperature is going to be above 90 again but winds are to be calm, which adds to the heat. The smoke has been strong, causing my eyes to burn, and the smoke on my clothes remind me of campfire days as a young man. This is not the best image to start the week with but it is what it is. Have a great day!

This is reminiscent. When we had our fires, we also got the eeriest sunsets. People who could not see the sunset from their homes would make it a daily ritual to walk to a place where they could watch it and stand in silence for the duration. Seeing people standing silently along roads watching a red sun behind a cloud of smoke only added to the eeriness. I’m glad that’s behind us now. I hope rain comes soon for you guys.

Like Cedric, hoping you folks get a good rain soaking soon.

Very eerie view in my opinion. I can only imagine the feelings one experiences having it impact so many senses.

That’s a reminder that nature’s beauty is not always a result of something positive. If that was a storm cloud it would be quite ominous, and it is already pretty ominous!

Beautiful and eerie capture, Monte. I didn’t realize that CO also had fires going on… too much news to keep up. I hope you all get some real rain soon.
