I have favorite places I enjoy returning to for the quiet I experience and the photo opportunities they offer. This is one such place. For this image I pulled into the gate to a farmers field and shot from the bar-ditch. A meadowlark greeted me with their morning song as they also watched the predawn colors.

One of the things that struck me about visiting the Fort Collins area – and out West in general – is the amount of open space with views. We have some open space around here, but finding the right combination is challenging. My seasonally-favorite sunrise spot comes back into play in early November through the winter, and I look forward to that. But I do need to do a better job of scouting out good locations. I think we’ll be home for a while now, so that should give me some time!

Yes, I am blessed with these open views. It seems they are disappearing as people gravitate towards this area with all the housing developments. Saddens me. I also have seasonal places I like to go. I venture to some locations due to the birds, or a special tree or grove of trees or some barn that hasn’t come down yet. I need to check on your posts as I’ve not looked for a couple days.

They were probably telling you – “good thing you stopped sir, it’s going to be quite the show.”

Like Tom mentioned I don’t have the open spaces I used to and sometimes I’m grumpy about it but I’m still discovering new and exciting landscapes to roll around in, and Mushrooms! Lots of fungi to photograph. Still, those open skies like you found, you just can’t beat them.

And, you’re sharing those new and exciting discoveries! We’ll share what we have in our neighborhoods. That’s what it’s about.

The rich color, tonality and diagonal lines of the clouds are hard to beat. Beautiful image!

Thanks, Tom. I’m blessed to have scenes like this. They are the gifts nature provides when we pay attention.
