A quick trip to a local nursery was the order of the day for my sister and I. She has this lifetime project of creating and maintaining a wonderful yard. These trips to the nursery are ways to find ideas for her sanctuary. I took the camera and found this Aphelandra squarrosa (commonly but ambiguously called “zebra plant”), which is a tropical plant of Brazil. This plant is often used as a house plant.

Monte, seeing this photo gave me fond memories of my late mother. She was a gardener with a green thumb and had one of these “zebra plants” she kept indoors during the winter and on the porch in the summer. Thanks.

I’m glad it did bring up memories of your mother. She had good taste.

I have not been out and about lately and this is a marvelous sight to find at your place. By omitting everything except what matters, you made this plant so real for me. Now, I want one! I missed you during that spell when you weren’t able to post regularly. I hope you are feeling all settled in and enjoying being home.

I am almost settled in but may be on the move again in a couple of weeks. Work will also be hectic over the next 3 weeks and includes a trip back to Indy for my recurrent training. Glad you enjoyed my image!
