    My life is good

I’m healthy, I’m rich but not in a monetary way. However, I must admit there are times when things seem a bit out of focus, a little blurry, sort of like this image. I was in my hotel room and about to go to bed when I noticed my reflection in the window with the city lights as background and took a quick photo. I’m on the fifth floor so my reflection has the feeling of being suspended. I think it reflects how our lives can be at times. We are not quite rooted in present and may be a bit out there, suspended, not here nor there.

It’s not written down anywhere but my body clock has let me know that today would have been our 38th wedding anniversary. Seems so long ago, suspended, out there. It’s times like this when it’s best to turn the lights off and find time for solitude. Ground myself to the present, send out some roots.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and enjoys their Sunday.

    Inspired Twice

    Westerville, Ohio

Sometimes I raise my camera to my eye because I’m inspired with what I see at the moment. Sometimes there is a thought process involved before pressing the shutter and other times it’s more of a reaction. The above image was a moment of reaction and about 3 seconds worth of thought, mostly in composition. However, once loaded on the hard drive the previously felt inspiration was not there. The tall green with my shadow had nothing to say to me.

A few weeks later while making a second pass over last months images and getting rid of the losers, inspiration spoke again of this scene. After playing around with it for a couple of minutes, I convert it to black and white and saw a completely different scene. So in this image I was inspired at shutter time and in post processing. I guess you can say I was inspired twice.

    Shadows in the Alley

    Shadows in the Alley

Went back to the alley again to try something a bit different: which is called practice. I used the same model but we tried to create a very different feel: the shady character. Again, it’s fun. During the process I encountered a mother and her two children who hesitated coming through the alley when they saw me. I waved then through then showed them what I was doing. They acted like it was cool but not so sure they had the same enthusiasm as I did. 🙂 Besides they were on their way to Graeters Ice Cream. I found the evidence all over their faces when they came back through. Happy Sunday!

    In a Back Alley

I found this handsome dude wandering around in the back allies of Uptown Westerville last night. I took a few pot shots at him while playing around with flash. Wore me out trying to chimp and pose. I learned a few things about my flash and that you never know what you might find in a back alley. Have a great Friday.

    Blue Shirt

    Blue shirt

If you’re gazing at this pretty face and it’s Sunday morning, then you will know I’m somewhere in the sky over the east coast where my final stop is in Richmond, VA. Will be staying at the Double Tree, one of our better hotels, where they greet you with these massive warm chocolate chip cookies. I’m posting this self-portrait because I still participate in the self-portrait Friday group on pbase and just figured I’d throw it up here. Hope you have a super Sunday!

    Window Light

    Window Light

This is another example of how my photography has evolved. I find images wherever I’m at with whatever props I have around me. And, since I’m always with me, I do have a model to work with.  Then the challenge is to find good light and a simple background to place the model.

    A Comfortable Chair

    Comfortable Chair

I have a comfortable chair in my bedroom where I can read, pray and meditate in quiet. With the busy world around us we need to find those places of quiet. Creating my sanctuary requires I spend the time alone, I’m quiet and not doing anything that busies my mind and I do my best to relax. This is my sanctuary.
