    This morning…

tired after a night of wrestling for sleep
I settled into silence, prayer, and meditation

ignoring the cold, I mounted my red steed for
an invigorating bicycle ride to the arboretum

then placed a latte made with love by Allie
on a tabernacle at an east facing window

with beams of sunlight enkindling blank pages
I sought words hidden within a favorite fountain pen

    Words for this Blog

I find this coffee life I live to be an interesting way of observing people. Arriving just as they open is usually the quiet time, it’s easier to journal or read before the busyness that moves in an hour later and people watching increases. The din rises with conversations and laughter. I watch friends meet and exchange hugs. I watch as people stand in front of the brewed coffees and have to make that early morning decision of dark or light roast coffee. I hear the blender crunch away as someone’s smoothie is being made. The bicycle rack begins to fill up. I jot down notes of what I see in my journal, knowing they may be words for this blog.

In the morning I will have a broken tooth surgically removed. I will probably be in some pain so don’t expect me respond to comments or read your blog until Saturday. Prayers and vibes to the universe are welcomed!

    To Be Fully Alive

    Pilot Custom 74

Someone shared a quote with me by Mother Teresa that says “to be holy is to be fully alive.” Seems as I’m aging I am becoming more alive, maybe even fully alive! But, being holy is another story. Anyway, my experiences in becoming fully alive has required me to rely on courage. I remember a time when I prayed for courage, believing it was something I didn’t have, not realizing it’s already a part of who I am. And, I believe a part of who we all are. I’ve learned that looking at my failures as lessons rather than condemning myself has required courage. Asking for help requires courage. It takes courage just to believe that I can grow in my creativity, in my spiritual life, to face the reality of life and, yes, to be fully alive.

Read this morning that the Alexander Mountain FIre is at 9,680 acres and now at 32% containment. Smoke is still bad so air quality is very poor. We are hoping to have rain showers and cooler temperatures for the next 7 days. Should help with containing the fires. Happy Sunday

    A Beginning

“A beginning is ultimately an invitation to open towards the gifts and growth that are stored up for us. To refuse to begin can be an act of great self-neglect.”

    John O’Donohue

I’m beginning this morning as usual. It began with quiet time of meditation and prayer. I’m now at Mugs for my Old Town Mocha latte made by Adrianna. I will meet a friend for breakfast later. No self-neglect this morning. We had a very active thunder and lightning storm last night, about 10 o’clock with very little rain. It is overcast this morning and we could see some heavy rain this afternoon. Hoping you have a wonderful Friday.

    Little Bird Bakery

The courage to be is the courage to accept oneself, in spite of being unacceptable.

    Paul Tillich

I met a friend on Sunday morning at a place called Little Bird Bakery. They recently relocated from the square in Old Town. Their new location is much bigger and more inviting. The same wonderful French baked goods, though! We found a table on the second floor looking out over College Avenue with the morning sun coming in the window. Their French pastries are delicious but pricey. Which will prevent me from going very often.

    Life comes from living it…

Things do not make life, life.

    Joan Chittister

From my own experiences I’m aware that a new fountain pen “will not” make me a better writer, or a wiser person. Yet, I still look. I also know that a new Fujifilm X100VI will not make me a better street photographer, or a wiser person. Yet, I still look. From my own life experiences the simple things I have in life are the real treasures of life. I am doing my best to live my life with less attachments to things and not accumulating more things. Chittister also says that life comes from living it. So, living life today means taking the time to savor the beauty of latte art, enjoying my mocha, and a bit of journaling with the treasures I have.

    But, then…

After some precious quiet time, journaling and watching the sunrise at a natural area, I let Isaac make me a mocha latte. As you can see he outdid himself on his artwork, almost too pretty to drink. And, he was grinning from ear-to-ear when he handed it to me. But, then…

After taking this photo to document his work of art, I bumped the table and sloshed the mocha everywhere. 😳 I was grateful for the saucer as it caught most of the spill and I could pour it back into the cup. He forgave me! It is overcast, cool, and damp after last nights rain. It actually feels refreshing. May you have a wonderful Monday!

    Something new…

Ultimately, the product that any writer has to sell is not the subject being written about, but who he or she is.

    William Zinsser

I added this Pilot Custom 823 pen to my stable of pens a week ago. It is larger pen than my Pelikan M200 and M205 pens or the Pilot Custom Heritage 92 or Custom 74 pens, especially the nib. It is also a vacuum filler and holds more ink. It is also more expensive!! So, I imagine this will be the only one I ever own. I do like the transparent smoke color and gold trim. Since I enjoy using brown inks it suits my writing style. My sister has one and considers it her favorite. Not sure if its my favorite, yet, but the writing experience is wonderful. I’ve found that when I enjoy a fine pen, or a favorite, I will pick it up more often. It has been windy all day. We had cloudy skies with a rain/mix early this morning. It’s about 1:47 pm, is partly cloudy and the cold wind still blows. Stay warm and hold on to your hat.
