Good question, Mark. Here’s a couple wild guesses. If there’s fear involved, then it’s probably wondering if the lens is loaded and are they about to meet their maker. If it’s seen 105mm macro lens before then it’s probably wanting me to hurry and press the shutter. It can only hold that smile for a short period of time before it no longer is natural. 🙂
