This was taken in 2004. Is it me or is there a sadness in this animals face? Is it in their eyes? I took it early in the morning so they could have been half awake and no coffee, yet. We are at 44 degrees this morning so the bicycle ride was nippy. Will meet my oldest daughter for breakfast this morning. Hoping you have a great Friday!

I have been to the island of Bonaire where they have a donkey sanctuary. To me, donkeys always look sad for some reason.

Maybe that’s the principle behind Eeyore.

It might be because he hears everyone calling him an a$$. 😉

I had to smile at this photo, Monte. Donkey’s do look a little sad but they’re pretty remarkable animals. I’ve always liked them and my father had one who was quite the rascal. They’re in great demand by ranchers/farmers, at least here in the east. Farmers put one in with their herd of cattle for protection from cayotes and feral dogs. With loud braying they’ll charge any coyote that threatens “their” herd. For a fight they’re armed with a mean bite, front hoove strikes and their famous kicks. The smart cayote will quickly run.

Yes, there are a few ranchers will mules and donkeys out here. I did not know that about their protective instinct.
