I’d walked farther than I thought so it was taking me longer to get back to the car than I expected. Looking at my watch, I had about 15 minutes before they closed the gate to the refuge. But, just as I climbed up the slope to the car I saw the moon just starting to rise above the lake. There was no way I could let this opportunity pass. So, within five minutes I took a few images of the moonrise, while a doe stood off to my left and a raccoon scurried along the waters edge and I made it before they closed the gate.

This is stunning. Remember that top ten list I mentioned? It is getting crowded. Maybe the number ten is far too small. Your return to Colorado has tapped something rich in you and it is a joy to watch it grow wider and deeper.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, coming back to Colorado and living a bit farther east of the Rockies, plus my growth in photography, has allowed me to see this country with different eyes. I also like being out there in the open spaces. That does not mean I will not post a few images of these Rocky Mountains.

It was well worth the risk of being locked in for the night!

Thanks, Steve. I so enjoy those moments and hope to experience more of them.

The heck with the gate, this was one of “those” shots and a special moment. Stunningly beautiful…wonderful capture!
Monte Stevens
Thanks, Earl. I don’t think it would have mattered if I hadn’t taken any shots. Just being there was enough.

What a beautiful scene and a very special moment with nature. 🙂

Not so sure about others but I sure do need those moments with nature. Nature not only gives us scenes like this one but also the cold, the hot, the wet and the wind. I’m in Omaha, NE this morning, where natuer is displaying it’s cold and windy side. I just came in from a walk, needed to feel the cold. Have a super Sunday and glad you did not break any nails.

Mmmmm, this IS a very special moment and the resulting image is a classic, signature Monte photograph. They say the best art invokes an emotional response. You did it here.
Monte Stevens
Emotion is what I felt and if one person also feels emotion then I’m a happy photographer. Thanks, David.
