A couple of days ago it rained throughout the night and continued into the early afternoon. So, who can blame us if we indulge in a favorite latte and a scone at a local coffee shop while it rains outside? I tried to write but words were not to be found. I tried to read but could not stay focused. So I sipped on the latte and nibbled on the scone.

I can smell the coffee. Nice image. You apparently purposely focused on that inviting and well-presented latte. I am wondering how you came to chose this as opposed to backing up enough for the scone to also be in focus. Did you try it both ways in camera, in your mind, make both exposures, none of the above? What was your process?

No, i did not try any other crops. I shot this with a 35mm lens right where I sat. My focus was the latte. I loved the crisscross of the chocolate syrup on the foam. The first couple of images had the scone in front which I did not like and therefore moved the cup forward and the scone back. Oh, and it was dang good blueberry scone!

Nothing I know takes the edge off of a rainy day like a hot cup of coffee!

Yes, just holding it in your hands can feel comforting, warming.

Nice still-life. Short depth of field really works. A classic kind of stock photo, technically perfect!

I never thought of it as a stock photo but you are right, it would work for that.

Looks like a good way to relax, I like the depth of field very nice.

Thanks, Don!

You’ve made this look inviting. That is saying something because I am NOT a fan of coffee; however, I will take that delicious scone. 🙂
Monte Stevens
No problem, I’ll split the scone wth you!

Hi Monte,
Great shot of the latte and scone, two of my favorites, I usually get at Starbucks.
It looks very inviting.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who hears voices calling me for a latte and a scone. I suggest you follow the invitations to wherever you can find them.
