I paid another visit to the grove of cottonwood trees near Mary’s Lake at the Rocky Mountain National Arsenal. My last visit, two weeks ago, showed the vibrant colors of yellow-gold of the leaves. Since then we have had snow and wind, so I expected to see some barren trees. The leaves of the cottonwood are shiny and triangular with rounded teeth on the margin. The nearly heart-shaped leaves are similar to poplar and aspen, also members of the Poplar family. We are moving on to winter and then I will try and get a photo of them in a blanket of white.

I love the structure of these trees. I look forward to seeing painted with snow.

I hope I have the chance for just such an image. Thanks!

They stand so proud. Like Steve, I admire their structure. All trees seem to have stories to tell. The cottonwoods spin yarns of bold adventures, tales embroidered with intricate details of countless fearless encounters. Love your photograph of them.

Great shot, Monte. We are having heavy snowfall now, so I may beat you to that Winter shot.

Well, go ahead and show me those images! 🙂

I like that your last number posts have shown images that have a more subtle beauty and a winter palette, rather than going for the most colorful subjects you can find, not that you don’t also do that, but I like these images…that’s what I’m sayin’. Thanks for sharing them.

Strange you say that because on my last trip I took very few images of architecture or bright colors but focused on things such as leaves and grasses. There is something about this fall season that is different for me.
