This is my reflections on Sunday morning from Starry Night. A young man sat against the south wall, phone in hand and a latte sitting on his table. He was not familiar to me. Sitting next to him was a couple who come here often, what we call regulars. A couple men sat in the lounge chairs near the front window deep in conversation, more regulars. Then Lucy came in who is one of the solid regulars. I see her almost every time I come to this coffee shop. She usually is out walking and stopping here is part of her routine. Sometimes she meets up with friends and sometimes she reads the paper. The baristas know her, as do us regulars. I asked if I could take her photo today. So meet Lucy!

Being a regular and getting to know the regulars is one of the great things about local or neighborhood establishments. Occasionally it’s possible to make new friends or acquaintances that way, although it’s often just the comfort we find in familiarity. It’s a good feeling to be recognized as a regular, especially by the wait staff but also by other customers.

Wow! An actual newspaper! Regulars and solid regulars – sounds like the place to be.

Yes. I think you see most on Sundays here. It is interesting to watch people read through them, which section first and the next.

A regular. Isn’t that a wonderful moniker. It can mean all sorts of things. I like two thoughts on it: one being known, and two being pleasant, average, and also just known as an ordinary folk. I miss my mornings at my favorite local coffee shop, The Bake Shop. This picture of Lucy, who I am delighted to meet, is a comfortable reminder of being known in our little town. Thank you, Monte!

Thank you, Geri. Some of us are known as regulars, even on this blog. I am attached to my coffee shop hangouts. I looked up the The Bake Shop and I like it. That would be a hangout for me. Hope you have a great day!
