Paul had an interesting post asking the question “does size matter.” I admit to being one of those consumers who is always looking at the latest camera, lens, camera bag or software update. I also confess to having too many camera bags and maybe too many camera lenses. In response to Paul’s post, for me size does matter but not in the pixel count. The physical size is what matters to me. As I’m one of those nuts who always carries a camera with them the weight and ease of access is important to me. I almost always have my DX size DSLR camera with me and and find at times a smaller camera would be easier to carry. A year and a half ago I purchased the Canon G12 and have been pleased with the quality the images and its ease of use. As I watch the market of mirror-less cameras improve my desire to add one of those cameras to my bag has increased. Seeing the results and reading the reviews on the Olympus OMD and the Fujifilm X-Pro1 and it’s little sibling the X-e1 (Sigh) has pushed my “consumer lust button.” And, these cameras have a larger pixel count than my present DSLR. Of course then I’d have to search for another camera bag for the new kit, buy SD cards instead of CF cards, a new flash, read another camera manual then take a trip to some city for a couple days of photography.

I had to laugh. They have us coming and going! 🙂 I have long ago decided that there is no such thing as “one size fits all”. We ‘need’ to have a number of different cameras in the arsenal, whatever we want. Also, I’ve given up on trying to justify it. It’s all about fun. I look forward to hearing about your new purchase … you know it’s gonna happen!

I laughed too. I read about all these guys buying the new four thirds cameras because they want a nice, light “walking around” camera, but let’s face it – you don’t need to be Charles Atlas to carry a camera around no matter how big it is. It’s the gear lust that drives photographers, not the need for another camera. But heck, it’s good for they economy.

It’s way too easy to push my lust button for my wallet. We also know the cameras are getting very good so we really need to invest in our skills and vision rather than gear. But, that new X-E1 looks cool! 🙂

Monte, you know we’re only talking about time here right? It’s not “if” but “when.”
I can say this because I know I’ve had this fever for a new DSLR most of the year…I finally took something for it. 😉

Paul’s correct…D600. I’ve got so few shots with it (<80) I don't have any valid impression except knowing there are differences from the D700 which I've used for years. Hopefully more later. 🙂

I carry my Sony Nex-5n around with me most times – I find my D7000 too bulky and heavy to go everywhere. I’ve been waiting for the Nex6 to come out, but I’ve started lusting after the Fuji x-e1 (oh isn’t it gorgeous!). But then, there’s the D600. What’s next?

That Fuji x-e1 does tweak my number. I just had tehe D600 next to the D800 and was surprised at how much smaller the D600 is. It seemed like the D800 was closer in size to my D300. But, I’m sure leaning towards the samller cameras for street work and the DSLR for landscapes or portraits.
