Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend. I stayed out of trouble except for over indulging in food.

“Never has America lost a war … But name, if you can, the last peace the United States won. Victory yes, but this country has never made a successful peace because peace requires exchanging ideas, concepts, thoughts, and recognizing the fact that two distinct systems of life can exist together without conflict. Consider how quickly America seems to be facing its allies of one war as new enemies.”

May you enjoy this extended weekend with family and loved ones.
It has been overcast this morning and possible rain later today. May do a little rain dance shortly in case it can help. I am meeting a few high school classmates for our monthly luncheon today. I really do enjoy these small gatherings. Have a great day!
Frequently people in power are not as strong as they might wish to appear. Many people who desperately hunger for power are weak. They seek power positions to compensate for their own fragility and vulnerability. A weak person in power can never be generous with power because they see questions or alternative possibilities as threatening their own supremacy and dominance.

A shadow is never created in darkness.
Terry Tempest Williams
It is born of light.
We can be blind to it and blinded by it.
Our shadow asks us to look at what we don’t want to see.”
As a photographer I have been fascinated with shadows for a long time. Similarly I have become fascinated in seeing the shadow side of myself. There are aspects of each of us we do not want to look at nor do we want the world to see and have found ways to hide or disguise that in our shadow. In my youth I was blind to my shadow. Now as I’m older I’m finding it to be an adventure looking at my shadow side, exposing it to the light of awareness and growth, and bringing out the details so that I can uncover who I truly am and allow others to see my authentic and full self. Who knows what gem may be discovered in those shadows for both me and the world. I hope you have had a wonderful day.
Look closely and you will find that people are happy because they are grateful.
David Steindl-Rast
The opposite of gratefulness is just taking everything for granted.
It has been a productive day. I accomplished a few things that had been put on the back burner because of my surgery. So, I’m feeling grateful this evening. As I walked through my bedroom late this afternoon I saw the soft yellow light and shadows from the evenings setting sun. I grabbed my camera and now want to share this simple image with you. I hope you have had a wonderful day, stayed warm and dry and found time to be grateful!
The most fundamental aggression to ourselves, the most fundamental harm we can do to ourselves, is to remain ignorant by not having the courage and the respect to look at ourselves honestly and gently.
Pema Chödrön
“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”
Elie Wiesel
As I walked into my bedroom the sun reflecting off the glass in the picture frame caught my eye. So, I grabbed my camera and composed this image. Another scene I was not looking for but given me. Morning light!
“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”
A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
A much needed snowfall began falling last night and has fallen all day. Along with the snow comes the cold. We’re at about 12 degrees now and will be in single digits tonight. I say much needed snow because it will help in quelling some of the fire activity from spreading. It will not however put out the fires. Forest fires will smolder under snow then blow up again after the melt. I do find it interesting to hear people being excited about the snow because of the fires. Normally people are put off with the first major snowfall as it means the coming of winter and cold. What I hear today is, “Bring it on!”
