    Lack of Maturity

The way we treat the body of creation is, in the end, the way we treat the body of humanity.

    John Philip Newell

I easily want to attribute this scene found near campus to college students , and I may be correct in that assumption, but that isn’t always the case. However, I would suggest a lack of maturity is probably behind this scenes rather than pointing to any specific group. I admit my lack of maturity at 25 allowed me to partake in shenanigans, such as tossing beer cans out the car window. This photo is a good demonstration of how we treat creation when it is seen as only an object. It’s not a pretty image and has me asking the question, how do I/we treat the body of humanity?

    A Common Scene

Student life at Lory Student Center

It was snowing when I took this image at the Legacy Lounge in the Lory Student Center last week. You couldn’t see the mountains but today we have have clear skies and it is now 54 degrees. That’s warm to most of us this time of the year. But, that will change tonight as a front moves in and we get another 1-2 inches tonight and tomorrow. This student had his laptop open but he was looking at his smartphone. A common scene nowadays.

Study Time in the Kindness Lounge

    Study Time
    Study Time

This is a common scene on campus. I probably could come home with a dozen such images each day I wander on campus. However, something interesting about this image is the lack of earbuds by this young lady. She is one of the few with them.

I took this image in the Diane Warren Kindness Lounge at the Lory Student Center. The lounge is a study area with a great view, fireplace and an interesting sculpture located outside the windows. It is usually quiet so it is perfect to finish your last minute readings.

    Schools Out

    Free

Today is a special Friday for Colorado State University students, it’s the last day of classes. Some had finals yesterday while most of them will taking them today. Graduation ceremonies will be going on over the weekend. Proud parents will be all over the place. Forget about going to a restaurant. Of course, the parties follow graduation.

Living just six blocks off of campus has it’s perks and its down side. Nearby are a ton of fast food restaurants, small mom and pop restaurants, laundry places, and the popular pizza and beer joints. The down side is the noisy and busy streets and trash. At the end of any school term you find all sorts of furniture being given away: free. Freshmen could do well if they roamed around this time of the year and picked some bargains. Probably have a couple cigarette burns and beer stains. Anyway I found this on my walk this morning.

    Way too much coffee…

I got lost. Well, not really. Diverted is a better word. And, I’ve had way too much coffee today. It all started when I decided to drive to Granville and walk the streets, all 4 blocks, to scout out some photo opportunities. Instead, I drove to Westerville, the Uptown area, and walked the streets there for photo opportunities. I had never been there before and thoroughly enjoyed the small community. I stopped in some of the shops to ask questions about the area, remember I was on a scouting mission. Friendly people everywhere! I found a couple testing out some Amish lounging chairs. They would not say how much an hour they made but just laughed with me and let me take their photo.

I found two pretty neat coffee shops. One was massive and I mean massive. The other one was small and I mean small. They each had their own feel and ambience. The larger of the two coffee shops was called Java Central. There must have been 12 tables in the shop and about 12 lounge chairs scattered throughout. Even a few tables and chairs were outside on a patio. The large room in the back could be rented out for business meeting. The smaller of the two was called Heavenly Coffee. It had 4 tables inside with maybe that many outside the store on the sidewalk. I sample coffee in both places and felt they both provided a good coffee so I’ll be back to both. Thus the reason for tooooo much coffee today.

I also ventured out into the campus of Otterbien College. It was founded in 1847 and is a private, independent, coeducational four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Walking along Grove Street I found this wedding bow still hanging on the railing at the Methodist Church and of course pressed the shutter button. I enjoyed my scouting today and have some ideas next time out there.
