    Meg’s rosetta from this morning

This morning I made my way to Mugs for this Old Town mocha and the blueberry scone, which is now eaten. The sunrise just before I left for the coffee shop was spectacular as the eastern sky was aflame in red and orange. I was too lazy to take a photo but just watched the miracle of it. This is a photo of Megs rosetta she made this morning. I hope you are enjoying your weekend, rain or sunshine.

The only thing more dangerous and more common than narcissism is group narcissism.

    Richard Rohr

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, a need for admiration, a lack of empathy, and a heightened sense of self-importance. Individuals with NPD may present to others as boastful, arrogant, or even unlikeable personality. This personality has no capability to be of service to others because its only goal is to serve the self. And, I would suggest this is also a true definition for group narcissism. We are seeing it running amuck in our politics, churches, corporations, professional sports, celebrities, the wealthy and the ideology of superiority.

    A Love Affair

I’m having a love affair with my coffee life.

    mws

I was awakened during the night by rain gushing down the rain gutter outside my window. It sounded like a river but we only received about a quarter of an inch. This morning it is still overcast, looks threatening, and more rain is possible. The high today is only expected to reach 56 degrees so about 20 degrees cooler today. Tomorrow is expected to be the same so I have makings for cream of chicken noodle soup for the crockpot in the morning. It does not feel like June which made my Old Town Mocha seem like just the right medicine I needed. Thank you Dean!!

    Rosetta

After prayer and meditation I made a smoothie, fed my soul with inspirational reading, and then journaled. It’s pretty much how I start every day for the past several years. I was scheduled to meet a friend for coffee this morning but she’s not feeling well and had to cancel. Instead I rode the bicycle to Mugs. We have overcast skies, 50 degrees and 100% humidity. Needles to say the ride was invigorating. Dean added her latte art to an Old Town mocha making life just a bit richer for me. I’m back home and laundry is started, which was the only thing on my to-do list. Hope you have a wonderful Thursday!

    Our Code Word

    Rosetta

God is our code word for everything that is wondrous and mysterious and hidden at the heart of our deepest heartache, and most childlike delight.

    Mirabai Starr

If I really want to stretch Mirabai’s definition I could replace “God” with “Old Town Mocha” or “coffee life” or “latte art.” I hope that assumption comes across as childlike and not childish! Either way Adriana did a great job on this rosetta.

    The Artist

Behind the facade of image and distraction, each person is an artist in this primal and inescapable sense. Each one of us is doomed and privileged to be an inner artist who carries and shapes a unique world.

    John O’Donohue

Baristas are artists. As artists they are a part of the creation of our day because when we walk into a coffee shop, they greet us by name and then provide the drink we want. I consider them an artist because they can make a latte, while carrying on an intelligent conversation with us at the same time. They are artists because of their craft and skill in creating latte art from the crema of steamed milk: the heart or the rosetta with many leafs. I’ve even found myself not wanting to drink my latte and mess up their creation. And as we get to know each other, we get to see that inner beauty in each one of them, the person they are becoming and gift they are to the world. Go ahead, try and tell me that Keera’s smile is not a work of art.

    Rosetta

Latte art is a method of preparing coffee created by pouring steamed milk into a shot of espresso and resulting in a pattern or design on the surface of the resulting latte. Latte art is particularly difficult to create consistently, due to the demanding conditions required of both the espresso shot and milk. You most likely will not see latte art at Starbucks. Their system is to get you in, collect your money and send you on your way. Small shops are more prone to take their time, make it personal and make the presentation a work of art. Thanks Michelle for showing us your Rosetta.

David Hyde mentioned in a comment on one of my posts last week that turned out to be a good lesson for me. He asked what prompted me to “make choices of what to make sharp and what to let blur.” To be honest it blew me away as I had not even noticed my focus. What i remember is when I started to take that earlier image the pitcher was not in my viewfinder. I was focused on the cup. After taking a couple of shots Krista started to steam the milk. I just never changed my focus.

A couple days ago I went back to Cuppys and asked Kate to setup this shot, placing the focus on her hands this time. I like this image better. Another lesson learned from other photographer.
