Those Brown Eyes

I want not only to observe but to know living beings, and this implies a dimension of primordial familiarity which is simple and primitive and religious and poor.

Thomas Merton, The Trees Say Nothing

I would add that this familiarity needs to be in their natural environment; the city park, the mountains, prairie, desert, yards, and gardens. All living beings share this world with me so spending time with them is the gift.

Retired. Having fun with photography. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku/poetry. Have a love for fountain pens.

Great portrait with nice lighting Monte. Your cottontails are a bit more mottled in color than the ones I see in my yard, probably a function of their habitat I imagine – or species – or something else because I am showing my ignorance of rabbits.

I’m not sure how I missed your comment from three days ago. I had no idea that our cottontails would look differently, but it does make sense with different vegetation, weather, and even altitude. I guess it shows my ignorance too.
