It’s late and I should be sleeping. But, I’m processing this image and listening to the rain tapping against my window and hear the rumble of soft thunder off in the distance. A Spring rain is refreshing the earth. I like it.
This image is another one of those subjects I would have walked by a few years ago. I’ve never been interested in playing chess and with all honesty because I didn’t think I was smart enough to understand and win. However, at this time in my life this game board and chess pieces capture my attention, not because I wanted to learn to play it, but because of the play of light on it. I like it. Who knows, maybe my grandchildren can teach me how to play it sometime.

Yes, so many surfaces to catch and reflect the soft light and the wonder texture and grains of the wood…very nice indeed.
I’ve played some chess but calculating many, many moves ahead is too much like work for my poor mind. I’d rather stick to checkers — a little less bewildering.

I’m right there with you, Earl. Way too much thinking going on there.

Monte, I love how you have used the soft light and the manner in which the pawn is slightly out of focus; out of focus is how I play chess.

Thanks, Steve. Most of us who shoot on regular basis seem to always looking for the light.

Beautiful Monte
Sorry I haven’t been around much I am in the middle of a book project. However I love the work you have been posting on the new layout.

Glad you took the time to stop by, Ray. Thanks, for you kind words on the layout. We’ll see how it works out for me.

These pieces remind me of my days in high school when we used to goof off in carpentry class when there wasn’t much to do and head to the locker room or one of the drawing rooms for a game or two of chess! 🙂 I was never any good at it, but really liked to play. I’ve not played since high school, though.

Glad you reminisced about the school days because of this image. It actually was taken at a lodge in Colorado with this wonderful light coming in from surrounding windows. I’m not sure I could even tell you the names of the playing pieces.
