Window Light

Dianne

Portraits are tough for me. I feel confident in my technical skills but feel some weakness in capturing the essence or personality of the person. How many good images I get will depend on the relationship established between myself and the model. The more comfortable that relationship the better the chances for good images. In this short session with Dianne I asked her to find a comfortable pose, hold it while I take an image then move on to another pose. She did very well, I enjoyed working with her, and I believe a couple more short sessions would offer more keepers.

I also enjoyed the diffused window light from our overcast skies, cold and wintery. This window light is soft, delicate, creating minimal shadows with warm tones. But, in all honesty, what really makes this a nice portrait is the beautiful young lady! Thank you, Dianne!

Retired. Having fun with photography. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku/poetry. Have a love for fountain pens.

I have never seen any evidence to convince me that portraits are tough for you. 🙂

The window light is, indeed, lovely and it’s clear that you created an atmoshphere conducive to relaxation. That in itself is an art. Kudos to you and your suject.

I agree with Anita Jesse — I was surprised to see that you feel like you struggle with portraits. Those I’ve seen all seem to show a great sensitivity to the subject, this one included.

I would say portraiture is one of your strengths just based on your posts of all sorts of interesting characters caught in superb illustrations of emotional weight. Maybe you work harder on portraits more than some other types of photographs?

Even though I enjoy nature and my time within it the portrait can speak volumes to me. And, as I mentioned I am always improving my technical abilities with this awesome tool i have. I consider myself an introvert so maybe I do work harder on the portraits and have more comfort with nature. That could be an interesting blog. Thanks, again for stopping by and leaving us with your thoughts and perspective. Love it.
