These birds make their presence in our western wetlands. They usually breed in loose colonies and build their nests over water, attached to cattails and reeds. Along with its cousin, the Red-winged Blackbird, they seem to pose for me on my walks around our lake.

The blackbird brings a nice color balance to the image. Good composition.

And, they are all over the place. I had one hoover over me heard yesterday while on my walk. They just floated above me and made all sorts of noise. I wonder if there was a nest nearby.

A favorite element for me is the way the green grass slows me down, but the vibrant colors of the bird pull into the scene.

I did bump up the contrast, just a bit, David, in order to get the green to dominate more. 🙂

Certainly a beautifully colored bird and a photo well composed — what Anita said. 😉
Have a good weekend, Monte.

Thanks, Earl!

Well done, Monte. I find bird photography one of the hardest thing to do. I can’t get them to sit still long enough!

I know that feeling, Ken. Bird photography requires patience.
