Monte, the B&W version is beautiful. Quiet and peaceful. The lack of color, and of course the monochrome sky really simplifies the scene, and the trees are very nicely balanced with the light pole and the shadow of the left tree To my eye the color version has a lot going on, although the light is very nice.
I love this idea of revisiting a scene in different seasons, different weather and in different light.
Surprisingly the top image is not black and white. The sky and weather creates the gloomy feel. I also like the idea of returning to locations, even a different time of the day makes a big difference.
Now, you just need a couple more to complete the set. Spring and summer. I like both, but, like Tom, prefer the B&W; however, I will say that the color one does have enough softness of color to not be overwhelming.
