    Opening Doors

    Mystery Doors
    Mystery Doors

“Be an opener of doors”  ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Five words but they do have power behind them. As for myself I could sure do more about opening more does in my life. I see them all the time in life. I would like to be able to quiet those voices within me who talk me out of opening more doors. I’m envious of those who are always opening the doors in their lives.

    Places of Quiet

    Prayer Time

With three other people living in my small condo, privacy is scarce. After living alone for the past12 years it has taken a toll on me. So, I’ve wandered off seeking places for quiet and solitude. These have been parks, nature areas, a couple of “quiet” coffee shops and local churches. I’ve discovered I’m not the only one seeking places of quiet and a refuge from the business of the world.

    My Kind of Morning

    Dandelions

I saw this group of dandelions along the bike bath at Rolland Moore Park yesterday and just had to stop and take a photo. I find it strange how some people call them weeds and others don’t. I actually rode on a part of the bike trail I had never been on before. At the far west end the trail is the Spring Canyon Community Park. Wow, was I surprised at it’s size and beauty. It is nestled up against the foothills so the view is awesome. I found a picnic table situated among a butterfly garden and journaled for a while. I loved listening to a couple of meadow larks calling to each other. I think this will be a place I come to visit more often. Anyway it was my kind of morning.

    Musician and the Dancer

    Musician and the Dancer

“Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music.”

    George Carlin

A couple years ago I had a long overnight in Seattle with a fellow flight attendant named Tracey. As it was Memorial Weekend we took the train down to the Stadium to watch about five innings of the Mariners game then headed to Pikes Market. We walked the streets, ate a nice salmon dinner and just enjoyed ourselves. It is overnights like this we consider one of the perks of our work.

These two young men we entertaining to watch. The one was playing drums with the glass bottles and plastic buckets while the other danced up a storm. Even though they were in a major part of town they stayed in their own world of music and on the same page.

Want to pass along this link to a pretty good read on difference between a photographer and an artist by Mike Johnson.

    Walking with our Muse

    The Alley

“One must give himself completely to his art and not hold back.
    Throw caution to the wind.
    Embrace the muse.
    Make love to your art.”

    Harley King

So if writers sit at the computer with their muse and write, then why can’t the muse walk beside the photographers? Muse may not be the word for some and would rather use words such as inspiration or vision. But, some voice within will ask us to look through our viewfinders at a specific, decisive moment. It think it’s best when we listen to that voice.

    It’s What We See

    Reflections

“I think a photography class should be a requirement in all educational programs because it makes you see the world rather than just look at it. And by seeing we also begin to understand ourselves.”

This image is not just about the subject or my attempt to confuse the viewer. It’s about what I saw of the subject, it’s environment and the light. And, what is it? It’s a coffee table in a hotel lobby with beveled glass inserts and the reflection of window lights and curtains.
